Lord Peter Hain...right or wrong?

Using Parliamentary Privilege to make the public aware of something BEFORE a court of the land has ruled on it I don't have a problem with. But in doing so after an injunction has been put in place is wrong. 3 experienced judges took time to make a considered judgement... is Lord Hain above the law?

If Peter Green has done a Harvey W I hope he gets crucified for it. Equally, I'd like to see Lord Hain's hide on a wall for abusing Parliamentary Privilege.

There's a whole pile of smelly stuff on both sides of this, but if this is the case, it's good enough to chuck him out imho. Did he declare the interest when he stood up?

I'm always a little uncomfortable with naming people in these situations without the production of evidence.
Allied tomthat, as has been said. 3 Judges decided that PG should not be named and they must have had good reason for that.
I have no time for Green at all, don't get me wrong. But there should be anonymity until evidence is submitted or charges are made.
Mud sticks and unsubstantiated allegations can totally destroy reputations and lives.

Haine was incredibly arrogant and he could well have damaged this privilege going forward. Green is deeply unpleasant but even unpleasant people are allowed the proper process of the law.

Everybody is supposed to be equal before the law.
But an ordinary bloke can have his name and photo all over the press for an allegation.
Rich people can stop that using their money.
That’s not equal imo.

Either everybody can be named and shamed or they can’t , but it should not be by how rich you are that determines it.

I think nothing should be in the press until found guilty , but that’s another argument.

To my mind, I'm mixed.
It worries me that LPH has usurped the law by using PP, however I dont think that the DT would spend 18 months on an investigation if it wasnt true (they arent a red top afterall, so although I'm not their reader I respect their journalistic integrity) and so because of that I dont think SPG should have been allowed to buy his injuction. Especially since I read theres a 5th lady come forward who hasnt been paid off to stay quiet.

Agreed. The telegraph is owned by a very odd couple, who are unafraid to influence editorial decisions when it suits them and their business interests. Not that this makes them any different to anyone else, but the country would be a better place if the fourth estate was more independent of vested interests and called the establishment to account in a rigorous manner.

All I have seen of PG seems to be very controversial so why did he get a knighthood in the first place.
