Hi all,

I'm on the look out for a course in York or surrounding area, preferably one with a second membership scheme or very reasonable membership prices as I'll be retaining my primary membership elsewhere for the forthcoming golf season.

Any recommendations welcome but ideally somewhere around £500 or less would be benefitial...

Thanks,

Marc

There's someone on here who plays at strensall (York GC) but no idea what the fees are these days. York is generally just expensive for the better courses unfortunately.

Rudding park do a flexible membership scheme. Worth a look.

Depends what side of York you are and how long you're willing to travel, some excellent courses within 20-25 miles of York.

Not played it but what is scarthingwell like at tadcaster?
Played it in the summer and was really impressed, particularly by the greens which were the truest I played this year. Plenty long enough too, lots of opportunity to get the big stick out. I have heard it gets rather boggy this time of year, but where does'nt! Worth a look.

Even as a recent visitor to York I have already incurred the ring road and the delays it entails. Nightmare.

Not sure where I'll be living yet but most likely the north of the city, near Clifton Moor side. This may change depending on what I decide on, accommodation wise.

Thanks all for your suggestions so far, I'll be trying to play a few of these over the next few months as and when injury and time allow.

Clifton moor arrgh! That's the worst side for traffic maybe have a look at Forest of Gailtres and if aldwark manor will do a deal?

I've seen the sign for Forest of Gailtres on my way up the A19 but never actually looked into it. I'll add it to the list.

Played Aldwark Manor a couple of months ago and wasn't impressed at all. Looked a little run down in places and looked like it needed a bit of work to it. Keep seeing Gailtres on teeofftimes but never played it.

+1 on this. Played it in the summer and really enjoyed it

Get aldwark manor to do you a trial round (or get a q hotels voucher from one of the golf insurance offers) - at least you'll know you made the right choice not joining! Bit dull really and in poor conditions, last time I played the pro said the greens were in tip top condition - what a crock! Mown moss is the best way of describing them!
What's the one at flaxton called?

I've been offered a free round at Pike Hills with a view to taking up secondary membership there.

Does anyone have any good or bad views on this course?
