Looking for a course Swindon Area

Swings....etc. If you'r after just one or two rounds per year with your mates I would go for Bowood. I'm playing it tomorow at 3pm for free but that does not cloud my judgement! I manage three or four rounds a year and we play a senior's match against them as well.

Well me and three mates get together once or twice a year for a fourball so we like to play somewhere 'decent' - doesn't have to be 'special' One of them (the one in the Swindon area) wants to join a club so if we can double up our Sept fourball with a recce all the better but not essential. I'm thinking Bowood or Castle Combe - but I'll leave it to my Swindon buddy to choose. West Berks sounds good and handy for me.

Brookend - correct

If he is ever looking for someone local to play golf with I know a guy who lives in Luckington who is a great to hit some balls with. He also organises an Annual golfing trip with people from all over the UK and Europe. We played 3 days at St Mellion this year (and I won), it is often in Spain though.

Cheers SR - it's Wrag Barn for us this time - looks OK. We're also looking into another day at Celtic Manor late October maybe.

And so yesterday we had a very pleasant fourball round Wrag Barn and it was dry and sunny (somehow).

Not a bad track. Not bad at all. Holes possibly a bit samey and I can imagine that once you know it it's not too much of a challenge. Nonetheless - nice condition, fairways had drained well and so underfoot conditions not an issue at all. Bit of water lying on a couple of greens and some bunkers flooded - but that's about it. So impressed on that front given the weather of late.

Also friendly folk in clubhouse and good inexpensive food - also greeted a few times on the course by groups of members or regulars who would have recognised us as visitors - and that's good.

All in all - good day. Would I go back? Lots of courses to play so no - not unless we were once again looking to play in the area and then yes - I would.

I played there a couple of years ago in a knockout and can't remember any of the holes. :( The only thing I can remember is my partner missing a short putt on the 17th for the match then going up the 21st in the dark and losing.

Yes - nothing too memorable is about right - kind of reflects my though that many holes are a bit 'samey'. Though 17th hole is memorable - par 5 with stream wrapped around the front of the green and also a good long par three over water - stroke 3!

Not a fan of Wrag :(...... Too many plain holes lacking in any feature. There is also clover all thru the rough, which makes finding balls hard.

The par 3 5th is a good hole, it would be a very good hole if the tee was raised or they cut the reeds down so you can see the ball land.
