Longhirst Hall (The Dawson) or Percy Wood?

Our course (Arcot Hall) is closed on Sunday for a County Championship comp, so me and my regular PP are looking for somewhere nearby for a game.

Had a look on teeofftimes, and we can get The Dawson for a tenner or Percy Wood for £8. Haven't played either before, so wondering which is best. We are both novices, been playing for a year, and coming on (very) slowly, so don't want anywhere which is too tough!

Play Longhirst. Percy Wood is in a lovely location but there is no shape to the holes and I found it plain dull. The Dawson will be in perfect condition and has some interesting holes. The Lakes course at Longhirst is tight but The Dawson gives you enough space. Post which one you played and what you thought.

change of plan. Am off to the magic weekend at st james, on the beer at noon and won't get home till late, so unlikely to be in any fit state tomorrow morning!

will make a point of playing both this summer. Would be daft not to at those prices.

Ha ha. Should be a cracking atmosphere in the town with that on.

Yes you can't fail at those prices. Would also suggest, in the same area, Burgham, good course, nice and wide as well. You can usually get that for around £15 if you are flexible on times. If you want a little trip out then The Hirsel at Coldstream is another good course with freedom and they are doing an offer all summer at £18 a round on Tuesdays and Thursday. More than £8 or £10 but still really good value.
