Long Club Gapping

I believe mate that 1 club would be enough.
For me it would be a 5 wood
You could knock 10 yards off your 3 wood quite easy and also knock 10 yards
off your 5 wood so basically getting 2 more distances.
I find the more wedge options I have the better as I never hit a full
shot with one.

I have the clubs I need (and more! :o) for whichever way I decide to fill the gap(s), and I know which way I want to go, but I have these voices that won't go away!

I tend to go to a heavier top end through spring and then back to more wedges in summer - but this year I don't anticipate swapping out.
I believe I score better having choices that deliver confidence for longer approaches and key tee shots than I get from having the additional wedge - or put another way I can hit a range with a 52 more than I can tweak a wood or rescue. I have a range of wedges from which to pick one to go with the 52 (which always gets selected).
This leaves me driver/mini (16)/5w/4r/4i to cover off the range from 185 upwards which means I am usually confident I have the right option available for the shot I have to take on.
The only time I expect to do anything different is on visits to very short courses where you have many approach shots sub 100 (we only have 2 par 4s sub 400 on the course...) and the drivers not in the bag either.

Or learn your yardages for dropping an inch or so down the grip. You can still hit a full shot but 'lose' some of the yardage off the longer club that way.

I think its quite hard to know exact gapping at the top end of the bag.

if I smash my three wood it can spin up a bit but comes down soft. pretty useful when going for a green. if I hit it easier it doesn't go as high, has much less spin but more times than not ends up further total than a full blooded strike.

I only know approx carries and just work out what kind of trajectory suits each shot.

Btw I am top heavy this year with the addition of 3&5 woods. Last year all I had for much of the year was a 19hyrbid after my driver. I have loads of options and more luck than judgement that the 5 wood loves to draw and the 3 wood is easier to cut. O could drop the 19hbrid but I am reluctant to let it go as it has a real low flight.

In previous years I've had a bag full of wedges.

For me just the one gaping club is needed. For example ( not my yardages )

4 iron carry - 190
3 wood carry - 215

So id then find a gaping club that carry's 200 -205 what ever that club may be

That's a small gap, unless you have a very strong 4 iron and a weak 3 wood
