I was lucky enough to play The Carrick for my birthday couple of weeks ago. I thought the course was absolutely superb and a great test of golf. The staff in the pro shop were very friendly and even gave me a load of midgy spray after my other alleged anti mozzy cream seemed to attract them on the practice range.
Dont do what I did though and forget that you can have a penalty drop in the bunker to actually get it out; on 3 occasions I managed to lodge my ball in an unplayable lie.
The views are to die for and you will have a great time if its not pouring down...but they need to get in some decent highland ale bottles.

It has vastly improved, very good lay out with a few great holes. What SimonS says is nonesense in my opinion. You will enjoy it.
