reading this months mag and it got me thinking. I've only ever played parkland but I'd love to try out a Links course. Only bother is as a 22 handicapper will I be putting myself thru 4 hours of torture or will I actually enjoy the experience even if I hack my way round all 18? :D

You'll love links courses. It's the way it's meant to be. Why do you think they hold the Open on links courses and why do they feature so prominently in the UK's top 100 courses. For a start the views are better !

If you play inland all the time you hanker to get to the sea, similarly if you play on a seaside links all the time then a hilly tree-lined inland course makes a welcome change!
Are links the real deal or just a featureless wasteland, not sure personally. The open has had a few dodgy champions in recent years, Hamilton with his utility club for every shot wasn't good viewing.
I like playing links but I'm glad my home course is an inland parkland.
