I am looking to play my first Links Course this Summer (I use the term Summer lightly). Living in Nottingham does anyone have any suggestions on sometrhing reasonably priced and within a couple of hours by 1.8 Td Escort??

Budget golf, but will involve a bit of a drive from Nottingham. A great value quality course that I have played in Englandshire is Silloth-on-Solway. Wonderfull experience and I think it only cost £35 for the round, such a friendly place with excellent soup!

Personally I have never rated a golf course on the quality of the soup, but a mate of mine rates restaurants by the quality of their garlic bread, so you may be onto something.

You could do worse than go to Ganton, it's just up the M1 form you, not a true links but the wind is always a factor and it is truly a SUPERB Heathland course. When we played it was almost deserted. It hosted the 2003 Walker cup, and it has also hosted 1949 Ryder Cup (Ben hogan's name is still on the locker he used.)

Quite resonably priced as well.

Our society has an annual trip to Flamborough Golf Club each summer/autumn. Its a nice club, good course and they do reasonable society rates including a full (and I mean full) English breakfast (sausage/bacon/tomatos/beans/fried bread (hmm!!) and tea and toast a plently. Haven't played Bridlington Links, but hear thats good also. Not to bad for travel either - M1/M18/M62/A614(?) etc.
