Ok you're off 7 and have been for a while.
You want to get lower.
You've got 6 lessons with 3 week intervals and plenty of practice inbetween

How would you Structure the lessons?

-Start with the full swing making a couple of changes each time and working on it inbetween lessons. (The same as most lessons you've had previously)

-Work mainly on the weakest part of your game.

- A diluted mix of all aspects.

- Discuss with..then put yourself in the hands of the pro and let him decide what is best for you.

Any other advice/ideas welcome..

This, by all means have some input but if youre paying good money to an expert in his field no point tieing his hands behind his back

I agree to an extent Fundy but I'm not sure If I know what I need more that the Pro. eg- Should I be taking the reigns and saying "I want to get my H'cap down" "I think initially We should work mainly on the weakest part of my game"

Should I turn up with a 6 lesson plan as I know my game/weaknesses ?
Will the pro possibly think I'm a knob? ;)

Like Bob I'd say a playing lesson first

I'd start with a playing lesson

Bob- Would I do that at my home course? Is it purely a course management thing or have you recommended a playing lesson from the outset to also give the pro an insight into my game/strengths/Weaknesses etc for the future lessons ?

Would you also recommend a playing lesson from the outset for all H'caps levels ?

Exactly
At your home course preferably

I've always fancied a playing lesson mate.... I (like a few probably) think I am the best driving range golfer going. Would be great to get on course tips but I think it would best done when the weather is half decent and your not hitting off mud...

It sounds like it makes sense doesn't it Karl.
Funny isn't it though...possibly 90% of the Golfers I know have had lessons at some point and I don't know one that's ever had a playing lesson, and most (me included) just end up working on and making changes to the full swing.

Im just trying to figure out how to make 6 lessons as effective as possible, I think the playing lesson from the outset does make sense.

I bought a block of lessons before from a pro and we went out and played 6 holes he watched how I played each shot and at the end he told me where he thought I could improve.
As bob says playing lesson first as the pro notice something in your swing what could be a quick fix then he might want to improve your course management

I can say what not to do Dave.

After the lesson, DONT go and play afterwards, especially against a forummer.

When I had a block of lessons at Manchester GC, I went and played every time afterwards (normally against Birchy), and when I was 2 down after 3 holes I always ended up going back to my normal swing.

Be patient, ingrain what you are working on, more than playing.

make one of them a putting lesson, always something to go back to, when your putting is awry.

Basically do everything I didnt do.

I'm currently in this boat right now qwerty lad. had my first lesson last week.

Bought a set of 6 lessons. Told him I would be back in a month.

He wants to fix my flat backswing. Sent me of with a swinggyde . currently drilling away at it. Feels a bit strange having my hands higher at the top of the swing. Its starting to feel a bit more natural the more I do it.

Will get some golf in over the next few days if the weather plays ball. If not the range will be getting hit.

Will probably post a video of two for those in any way inclined to see the progress or lack there of. time will tell.

Good luck. I'd like to hear what your pro has you doing.

Pete after a lesson. Easy money.

I would want to work on the things (one by one - most significant first) that prevent me getting the club back to the ball on a consistent basis with a square face.

This game is so frustrating when you know you can play but haven't got a clue where the ball is going. Just give me the tools to start the ball where I want to and I'll be a happy chappy.

Ok, so cat amongst the pigeons here then, Iv had a few lessons but never a playing one, I personally don't really see the advantage of one. You play of 7 and you say you already know your own weaknesses, what do you think there is to gain by a playing lesson that you couldn't do in a bay with a launch monitor and things etc apart from a pro saying hit the ball here, hit the ball there, of 7 your course management must be pretty reasonable anyway. A 6 hole playing lessons and you'll hit in the region of 30 shots, 6 drivers, maybe 15 putts and the rest irons in between in. Take you 2 hours or so, that's a lot of balls that could be hit in a bay with better results IMO. the pro would see a lot more shots with more info available and at the level you play your swing shouldn't be that much different on the course than on a range.
I'd personally let him know what you think is your weak points are and see if he agrees, then work on that

I am with Simbo. Collect some stats on your game, make notes on your card where you are dropping shots. Off 7 you must be able to hit the ball pretty well. I would have thought the last thing to do would be to start messing around with your full swing, unless that really is the issue.

The best way for me to help someone play better golf is to watch them play golf, not hitting 50 balls with a 7 iron off a flat/perfect lie on a mat.
