Playing in a board comp today, going pretty well all the way round, standing on the par 5 18th tee feeling good and didn't look at my score.
I now find myself wondering if I should have, I knew I was going well and chose not to. (My score was 74 gross and I was four under handicap, after last week’s 0.2 cut I was on 11.9 so needed three under handicap or one point on the last to get to 11 playing.)

Reasonable drive though down the left and it hit a tree but dropped into a reasonable spot, just needed a slight draw to get me to the lay-up position, took 8 iron and overdid the draw, my ball hit the sliver birches on the left but bounced out to the right onto one of the hummocks there, lie was now not great with the ball above my feet, took my 7 iron and didn’t aim far enough right, either that or I should have opened the face a fraction, ball went left and hit the conifers just over the pond, had a good look for it but couldn’t find it! Went back and dropped on the slope and now playing five, 7 iron again, straight but short of the green, not a bad chip but above the hole, rolled the putt by and so down for an 8 when all I needed was a 7, 82 gross net 70, gutted.

Clubhouse leader was net 69 as well when I left......

I would have taken net 70 at the start of the day but the finish just spoilt it for me, especially as a bogey might even have won it! :(

been there, done that Crow. Our 18th is statiscally stroke 1 although it can't be that on the card because of its placing in a match play round.
I am not the only one to suffer numerous competition losses I am sure on this hole. I call it the Fat Lady, because a round is never over till you've played it. :(

You can't change it matey. Knowing may have made you try and play too cautiously anyway but you'll never know for sure. Be happy with the score and hopefully you'll pick up a few quid/pro shot tokens etc for 2nd
