Laptop virus

Since I came back from being down south my laptop seems to be infected by a virus. It wont allow images to download and is running dog slow How do I go back to a month or so ago when it was running better?

system restore is the windows feature to use, roll back then make sure your virus software is up to date and do a scan.

There are other things that can cause your problems, one being hard drive issues or OS issues.

Being a laptop its a lot harder to get inside and work on it than in a desktop.

One good thing to do with laptops if you have a speed problem is to locate the air intake and out vents, get a can of compressed air and blast the crap out of the gunk inside. They can get really clogged up if left uncleaned!

Why would you want get inside a laptop or PC for that matter to resolve a virus?

Andy, update ur Virus checker to the latest DAT file and do a full scan. Also get a good Malware \ Spyware prog (Adaware, Spybot or Malware) and do the same. Forget about restoring back to a previous state. A waste of time and not necessary.

I don't know if this helps but I picked up a nasty bug downloading an XP screensaver (the bastards)....it stopped AVG running or downloading.
In the end, I downloaded the latest "avast"

Mad, run system restore, download and run spybot search & destroy then a full virus scan with the likes of AVG or Avast.

Virus/malware sometimes attack system files which are needed for a stable operating system/browser.
Running the system restore first is an attempt to get back onto a level playing field before trying to get rid of it for good.
If you try to remove an active one, chances are it will not work, nor will trying to download the fix.

Have never once used a restore for anything never mind removing a virus.

Good virus software does that.

Use a good virus software first. (I use Panda Antivirus.)

Then, the other posters are CORRECT. A system restore to before you believe you had the virus is a good idea. Antivirus software does not usually TOTALLY clean things like the registery, a system restore will.

Tip. I always system restore in safe mode. (But never manually create a system restore in safe mode, as that will cause problems.)
