Laptop to TV picture help required

Trying to get a laptop to TV cable/connector thingy for my mate so he can have skygo from his laptop to TV. The problem is his TV doesn't have the VGA connection so I need a VGA to HDMI connection of some kind.

I had ordered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2M-HDMI-M...LAPTOP-MONITOR-S-VGA-CABLE-LEAD-/261690832979 but this isn't working. It will screen share using VGA to VGA connection.

you can use chromecast to send a tab from Chrome on a laptop to a tele. no cables, and they are 30 quid.

As you may or may not already know I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to techie stuff so a quick question...so you can stream from laptop to tv via chrome by sending a tab, whats a tab? (do you have an idiots set by step guide lol)

If that's the case it still wont work as Skygo is no longer available through Google Chrome.

A cable alone won't work because VGA is an analogue signal and HDMI is digital. The converter box should work fine.

I have a simple 5m hdmi-hdmi cable, cost about £3 off eBay. I picked up a mini hdmi to hdmi to run off my Hudl tablet if I don't want to use the laptop.

I only hook up the laptop for Steam In-Home streaming these days, the tablet does netflix and other non-gaming streaming.

I thought it would be simple as I use mine through VEGA to VEGA cable.

Strange that the TV doesnt have the correct input, even my swanky new Vierra can take a PC

This looks interesting...any idea how I would find out this...Note: Apple devices and Android smartphone/tablet PC/laptop must support Miracast, DLNA or Airplay taken from link.

Looks like as Jimaroid says the converter box is the way forward. May have to search for a cheaper one :thup:

This is fantastic. Just sorted it. Can get youtube/music on TV and still use the lappy.

Nope. It no longer works on Google Chrome either. Need to use it through another.

Cheers for that. So that would do away with the need for VEGA connection. Will usb thingy work on an older laptop do you know?

Should do sometimes the usb display connectors can be fiddly to get working. As long as you have windows xp or later and usb2 it will work. The other advantage of using this is it will carry the audio as well so you will not need separate audio cable. As general advice if your trying to connect a computer to something and you don't have the right connector you can usually connect it via usb.

It's a Windows Vista (Basic) but not sure about the USB2 thing. How can you tell USB or USB2?

Fabio , I've never seen a laptop without a HDMI output and I'm really old, as you know.

It must be one of those old Irish gas fired PCs :rofl:
