Lake District/ Scottish Borders courses

Carlisle course at Aglionby (not Eden which is also in Carlisle) is a parkland course and is on par with Silloth (Links) IMO.

How many golf balls would be required? I don't know about Brampton but everything I've seen and heard about the other 2, fill the boot 😄
My mate played Brampton for first time yesterday and fell in love with the place! (25 degrees and no wind helps I'm sure!).

No denying you might leave Silloth and Southerness a couple of balls lighter than you started with. Silloth in particular though at least leaves you with a smile on your face after it's beaten you up. I've always left Southerness with a grudging respect after being battered there - I tell myself next time it won't be quite as windy/tough, but each time it's been exactly the same! :) :) :)

Possibly looking at a couple of rounds in the lakes in April. Any recommendations? No accommodation booked yet but thinking the Travelodge in Kendal. Travelling over from Bradford so could do a course on the way in and then a course around the lakes or visa virsa

Being based in Ulverston I would avoid Kendal. They have suffered because of how well Carus Green has done, great driving range and teaching facility. Modern Clubhouse with good food.Windermere whilst short and no bunkers is recommended . On the way over from Bradford, Kirby Lonsdale is worth visiting, around a mile from A65.

My own Club Ulverston has exceptional greens, but dependant on The Winter weather like most courses in The Lakes during April. Seascale, whilst difficult to get to is well worth a visit and is a links and if you want to spend in excess of £100 Silloth is absolute class

Thanks.

We're mid 20 handicappers looking to pay around £40/50pp-ish. Yes I was a little bit weary of how the weather will be over the next few months. Love the Lakes but never played golf up there

A couple of others to consider are Silverdale on the Lanc's/Cumbria border and just off the M6. A northern version of Painswick, the original layout is quirky, with the newer holes all a bit bland.

Kendal is an option, just take your crampons, carabiners and ropes with you. You climb for 16 holes and come down for two. Most holes are interesting, and the views are definitely spectacular.

In other news, both are cheap as chips(y)

Should be able to get cheap tee times for Silverdale. Think we paid £15.
How did you fare on the 13th? The par 4 with the cliff face guarding the green. My mate hit his approach into the face, from where it bounced left into a gorse bush. Oh, how we laughed, he meanwhile declared a distinct disdain for the course. He said the same about Painswick. Philistine.

Badly if I remember rightly lol
