An excellent standard of golf showcased in England.

I have to say that the Far Eastern girls gave the westerners a sound spanking. Just wish I could remember the names.
Something else that struck me was how young the girls were. British Open winner, aged 20. What a future she and the others have before them.

Anybody else found the young Japanese lass's swing fantastically steady and smooth as silk?

At least they didn't have old jug ears presenting again. Mind you with his wandering eyes it was probably a good job too. I have to say I didn't think the Beeb coverage was too great and it smacked of just going through the motions of covering the event with as limited resources and budget as possible.

I think it is a shame because the event does deserve a higher profile and I think it would be better suited to Sky who could throw more resources at it, thereby attracting more sponsors and eventually making it a bigger and better event all round. Also have to say it deserves a better venue as I think Sunningdale isn't that tough a test for the cream of the game.

basher, do you mean miyazato? most consistent and controlled swing I've ever seen! I think she missed only one putt from inside 6 ft in 36 holes.

the next BWO is at Lytham so i assume that will be more of a challenge, especially if they also get Open weather.

I didnt catch much of the coverage but I took a friend yesterday and his son. They are both new to Golf and enjoyed themselves hugely.

I was struck in particular with the following :-

1, How short they hit the ball, particularly with the irons.

2, How accurate they are nevertheless! There were some superb approach shots even with woods and rescue clubs.

3, The overall control they have over their games and how when they had to adapt they do so. What I mean by that is they dont have the power to fight the wind etc so use it and the ground to manouver the ball around the course. The men could learn a lot from that alone!

4, What good viewing we had and how much friendlier the stewarding was, perhaps because there were so many Women stewards? We started by following the leaders but moved forward to move between the Gulbis group and Julie Inkster and could always get a look at what was going on.

Finally and what really hit home to me,the winner shot 6 under on the day (11 better than I have ever managed there!) yet didnt have a game which made you feel intimidated. It left me with a lot of thought,I will be taking a long hard look at my game and myself after yesterday.

Anyone who can get there should go next year,I know I will be.

I have to agree with your thoughts on Myazato's swing. Only 5 foot tall and about 6 stone p*ss wet through but didn't ever look to be trying to hit the ball hard. Talk about a smooth tempo and sound technique. Her and the eventual winners were the straightest drivers I have ever seen. Summed up by the quote on the BBC coverage that Christie Kerr has nicknamed Shin (the winner) chalkline.

It's going to be along time before we see another European winner. There were just so many really good Asians.
And did you hear the comment during the broadcast? According to Shin there are another 1200 Korean women off scratch or better - that's what we lack, men and women, - competition.

A friend of mine (who is not a golfer) caught a bit of this down the gym, and was particularly inspired by the form of ms Gulbis.

I didn't know it was on until i logged on here and saw a couple of threads. I watched the last hour.
Got to agree with the comments about the japanese girl. but, wasn't she tiny? My right leg is biggerthan her. Superb swing though and a shame she bollox'd the last hole.
A lot looked very young so the future of the ladies game looks good.
What did Gulbis have on her eyes?, it looked like she had adopted a pair of tarantulas.
