Finally. At last. I've managed to string a competitive score together. First round of the clubs bogey event and I'm currently atop (or was when I left) the leaderboard on +3. Bearing in mind I lost two balls with hooked drives, losing those holes, missed a 2 footer on the last for the win, and took 3 from the edge of the 16th for a half then all is pretty rosy.

The most pleasing thing and perhaps the scariest after all my bleating about no short game is the fact that I scrambled on four consecutive holes to fashion wins including back to back sand saves. The shot from the side of the 10th was one of pure invention. Bare lie with the edge of the bunker in front to a tight pin. Out with the putter to much mickey taking from the group on the 11th tee AND my partners. Played with a bit of pace to keep it from dropping into the sand and it followed the contours perfectly around the edge of the trap and onto the green. Not colose - about 8 feet but great imagination and cue muchos fist pumping when I proceeded to roll the par putt in (nett birdie and win).

It is only the first round of two and I'm not counting any chickens at all. I'm just as likely to melt like an ice cream cone in the sun tomorrow but to be honest I don't really care if I do (wel sort of - you know what I mean). Vindication in my mind for chaning teaching pros and going with the new swing. I knew the ball striking had been getting better and better but today was the day it clicked. Even out drove Hawkeye on a few occasions and creamed one on 12 that was as pure as I can hit it. Off to watch the pros now and try and switch the talking in my head off about tomorrow. Treat it as a social knock - relax and stay loose.

I await the "where did it all disappear to" thread around about this time tomorrow......:smirk:

Much as I'd like to ram those words right down your gullet I know I'm capable of great implosion that makes McIlroys last round at Augusta seem like a sub par effort. At least for four glorious hours today it came together. Tomorrow as they say is another day

Whatever happens tomorrow mate, today was as well as I've seen you hit the ball over 18 holes, just try not to think about it tomorrow

Bogey golf comps? Do they not do real golf at that place?

One bogey event a year so hardly a problem. Can only play to the format of the vent and even though I should be sitting on +5 or so ( that putt at the last still wrankles) I'm happy that I played properly for once. Being on top of the pile instead of getting neck ache looking up is a nice feeling too.

Get In. Sorry Dodger my old mucker but time to eat those words. Out in level par gross to be +4 on the day. Squeaky bum time on the back nine especially when I gifted the course back the 15th and then 3 putted 16 and 17 for weak halves. Solid par for a win to come back level. +4 today and +7 overall. Its a waiting game now for the rest of the field to play their 2nd rounds either tomorrow or Monday, but two cuts coming my way and hopefully a pot too. An honours board event so name in gold letters, qualification into the end of season Masters event and some decent wedge to spend in the pro shop - IF I am lucky enough to be the winner
