Had an op on my knee last Friday and the inability to do nothing but sit about on the sofa is killing me!

Haven't swung a club since the 13th :( The first weekend was okay because it was raining and the open was on, but since then, the sun has been shining and mocking me!!!!

The worst bit is not knowing how long I will be out for... Docs have said anything up to 12 weeks or even more, but no one seems to be able to give me anything more specific than that.

Meh. That is all...

I'm just entering my 7th week of an enforced absence from the golf course due to a niggling knee injury that I didn't deal with properly. Last golf was at Dalmahoy on 7th June.

Do what the Doc tells you and don't try to come back too quickly or you may end up needing even more time.

Got another physio appointment tomorrow so may get some idea of how long I still need to let it recover properly.

Thanks guys.

What did you have done?

Arthroscopy and partial meniscectomy to deal with multiple bucket handle and lateral meniscal tears. Basically, a load of cartilage removed. Have a damaged ACL (previously ruptured) too but they're hoping that can be dealt with without an ACL reconstruction as that would put me out for ages.

Hopefully I will be ok in a month or two. It;s frustrating because up until last Friday, I was running and golfing with no trouble except for very occasionally I my knee joint would catch one of the tears in the meniscus and swell up, putting me out for a few days.

Take it easy if I were you, look after it now and it might last a good few years more.
I'm starting to get some real grief from my left knee these days,.....ruptured the ACL and had cartilage removed at 18, (pre-reconstruction days), and 2 Arthroscopies later, little cartilage left, ACL no more at all, and onset of Arthritis.
I know I'm heading towards a Total Knee Replacement, its just a matter of how long I can help it last I fear.
*shakes head*

Take things slow and steady Steve, don't want to re-aggrevate it.

Do some productive stuff like learning more Jerry Cantrell songs on the guitar..or cooking Jambalaya...and sending me some :D

Thanks guys.

My left was similar (looked like crab meat fluffed up on the photos ) and had mine done in December. Was first week of february when I hit my first ball but has felt great ever since. Will be the best thing you have done. Eventually....

Haven't you learnt to cook that yet?! :D It's not like it's hard!

I forgot what went in it except that weird franfurter thing, turkey and rice! :D

I had the same op about 13 yrs ago when in my late twenties.

At the time i played a lot of football and one morning whilst playing my left leg locked and I couldnt straighten it. Went to A&E and even under the influence of the same gas they give pregnant women I couldnt straighten it.

Arthroscopy came next to remove some cartilage and like you the doctors also discovered ruptured ACL. I opted against reconstruction and in hindsight it was the best decision that I have ever made. Unfortunately I know too many people with regrets about ever having that done.

I can still play football but golf is my game now.

Your leg will be fine, just do some muscle strengthening exercises little and often to help support the knee joint more.

Good Luck with the recovery.
