Knee cartilage - physio, running

Thanks guys! Glad I'm not alone!!

Going to start a bit of boxing, only because my lad is mad keen on it, he recently found out that his grandad and both his great GG's used to box! One of the GG boxed at the Albert Hall in the late 40's! he took the program into school for show and tell! shame local boxing club dont take them until they are 10, so we are gonna get some bags etc for home.

Watch out Scooter, he will be kicking your backside very soon :) :)

maybe try a decent rowing machine?or a leg curler?

but running EH NO WAY JOSE'.
im awaiting my 5th op on my right knee within weeks(had 2 on my left),used to do a load of cycling, made everything worse, swimming is good and seems to help me anyway.

Yuk, good luck.

I've now replaced running on the treadmill with fast walking, 8km/h.
Obviously it's not as hard exercise as running, but buggered if I want my knees getting any worse.

As I said to fragger at west hill, I have ignored all the advice given and have started running again! Lol knee has been ok, I bought a ice gel thing and stick it straight on my dodgy knee as soon as I finish, it's not given me any pain at all. I am avoiding roads and running on trails etc, up to about 4K at the minute, just need to up my pace a little and work on stamina but my aim is a sub 25 minute 5k park run by Xmas.

Started to get a lot of pain in my left knee after my long runs, did 8 miles this morning and it's been awful all day. Got the birmingham half marathon next week, will try to get round that and then get it checked.

I could recommend a very good physio, but he is based in Lincoln so that probably wont' help.

I would definitely recommend Googling for Physio's in your area that indicate they specialise in sports injuries, particularly running.

Personally, when I started running, after initially getting used to it and the little niggles, my knees actually started getting stronger than they were before. It actually helps knee strength so long as your technique is good and you are properly warmed up. However, I've not had any major knee injuries or operations before, so I certainly don't know how this might influence things. So, seeking an expert opinion is 100% worth it, even if it costs you about £40 for an appointment
