Kiss or not to kiss... That is the question.

I got into trouble playing with a lady once when she left herself an 8" putt for par and I said "I've heard you like them that length".
It was taken totally out of context....
Her playing partner (husband) wasn't best pleased....

I can't think of any way how that wasn't meant as it sounds!

It's a ridiculous custom whether it's on a golf course or just in every day life. All it serves to do is cause embarrassment for everyone. Are they cheek touchers and the cringey "mwah" noise? Actual kissers of the cheeks? BOTH CHEEKS?!

The girlfriend's friends all do this and they meet up in big groups. They see each other all the time, too! By the time you've kissed all the girls, shaken hands with all the guys etc it's basically time for last orders and off home again!

It was certainly an adjustment from what I'd been used to and wouldn't say its embarrassing anymore. Straying slightly ot it’s full on here re hugs, kisses & handshakes of some version or another

Guy to guy it’s a handshake for virtually anyone you meet and plan to speak to whether you know them or not (even if it’s just a few words like a taxi driver or barman) If you spend a reasonable amount of time with them its another handshake when leaving
Guy to girl I mentioned on previous page
Girl to girl is pretty much as above but with hug added if they know each other

I'm gonna get some funny looks when I hit UK shores again

That is brilliant, made me chuckle on a dreary Wednesday

I'd have been rolling on the floor is hysterics if someone had said that to my Mrs, proper golf banter.

Always, at my old club there were a good number of ladies playing in regular comps. Its just civilised.

At my new club, pretty much definitely always as my wife is my usual playing partner and almost always tongues ;) :D

Surely everyone has a pre-kiss routine.

Set your weight on your left side, slight lean, bit of a waggle, keep your head moving across the final lunge at it.

Just me?

I found a late side step get me out of your range.

Unfortunately it didn't work to avoid Stu's man hug.

I always give lady playing partners a swift peck on each cheek after playing with them.

They seem enthusiastic, very in fact.

The cheek kiss (or more accurately touching cheek to cheek and making a small noise that's supposed to resemble a kiss) is an every day social thing here (French influence I guess)

Anyway its done almost every time you meet a woman you know and also when saying cheerio so its done quite naturally at the end of a round of golf too

So it wouldn't be unusual to kiss a lady on both cheeks when you meet before playing a round, kiss again on 18th and then again when saying bye!

Add to that kissing all the ladies you meet in the clubhouse who're not in your 4-ball, then any you missed when you leave, it can get quite hard keeping track of the ones you've already done

Its only scary when you can see they've worked up a bit of a sweat!

OMG!

Sounds like an orgy!

I find giving them a quick grope on the first tee keeps them on their toes... Definitely seems to discourage slow play.

Haha, our definition of orgy must differ a fair bit (but you've just moved to Aberdeen I think so you'll soon get the knack of it :D)
