Presumably, it's a fellow competitor's ball, so no penalty, but ball must be replaced. Same applies if it's an opponent in a match too - though a penalty of 1 stroke if it's not during a search.
If it's your Partner or your 'man' while caddying, then it's a 1 shot penalty
