Normally I play pretty relaxed golf. Try not to get disappointed with bad shots, play each as it comes and just enjoy the day in general.

Played Concrawood, fantastic course but tough.

For some reason today I just couldn't do it. I hooked my first tee shot and proceeded to top my provisional into very heavy rough lost both of them. So before stepping onto the course proper I had a ding/blob.

The summed up the rest of the day. Although my drives improved massively the rest of my game then fell apart.

Return with 13 points and my worst performance ever.

No confidence in any part of my game. I am going through a few swing changes at the mo but has anyone got any tips to help kept the head on.

If I've learnt anything about this game over the years it's that sometimes, no matter how well you are playing, you are gonna play like a complete knob. It's golfs' way of keeping our feet on the ground. Just forget about it and move on.

You need what I call a stock shot.
A swing thought you KNOW works.
Some move or swing thought you have used in the passed that always works.

Take your favourite long club, (3w, 5w, recue whichever) and get to the practice ground and find a way to hit it well.
It could be
swing slowly
pause at the top
half swing
head still
head back
dont sway
etc etc
NOT ALL OF THE ABOVE
:)

Then when things go pear shaped on the course, you can revert to your stock shot/club and just get it in play.

Might be a silly question, but if you find a swing/shot you can rely on why would you not use it all the time?

It's normally not a driver. It's not normally a full power swing.
Just something less distance but straighter to find the fairway until you get to a range and sort out the naughty club

I thought that's what the bins near the tees were for :D

I've been playing rubbish for a while now and while I hate doing so, there has come an acceptance when things don't go well and ironically once I get to that point in the round where the 0.1 is a given and I've got to a point of resignation it usually clicks and I'll come galloping home over the remaining holes. I just need to find a way to tune into this resigned mode earlier without having to go through the angst first

I've been playing badly since I picked the sport up - it used to frustrate me, but the mistakes aren't as common if you can laugh them off.

Getting yourself worked up just causes you to tense up over the next one, inevitably leading to another mishit.

+1.

It's darn easy to be playing like a dream, step onto a tee/start a new round and lose it all instantly. I think (personally) it's down to something being "off", like standing a bit different, gripping a bit different, moving this and that, here and there. It gets better as time and experience grow, but you can't stop it totally.

It can happen to anyone.

Ian Poulter? Shanks?

I just done a review of Concra Wood - what did you think - played it a good few times now and I love the course - but by god its is difficult.

Beautiful but I didn't do it justice. It's a course you really need to play twice as the stroke saver and online flybys don't really do it justice.

We played off green society tee's and the tee shot on the Par 5 15th is one of the most intimidating I've played. By that stage I'd given up playing safe so just went for it. Imagine my surprise to end up in the A position bang in the middle of the fairway. Messed up my next shot though and still failed to score!
