Keeping a 6 off the card

I have managed a few rounds this year with no sixes (or worse!!) on the card, did so again today with a 75, hoping to go into my first year in the over 55's in single figures for the first time. No 6's is still always a personal target for me along with parring the par 3's. What other things do you use as targets when out on the course?

Didn't one of the Sunday papers use to run a comp where if you kept a 6 off the card in an official club comp you could send a copy of the card in and win a prize? Its a tough thing to do and not one I've managed.

I don't have specific targets when I play, but I find if I remember to think sensibly enough to keep doubles off the card I usually score pretty well.

Yes I believe it was the mail on Sunday, 3 Dunlop 65 for keeping a 6 off the card,
Never managed to claim any though!

They did indeed. I remember this when I was a Crowborough so must have been in the early 90's I guess.
I always fancied my chances and took part many times. Usually I had given up by the time I walked off the 2nd.

We dont want sixes but it can say I'm happy with a five.....when you're not really.

The Sunday Express used to do it, and I got a doz balls from them for it.

Managed to keep a 6 off on Saturday...................... but had 3 7's.

It's always a target to keep a double bogey off the card. Once read an article by Colin Montgomerie saying "make your worst score a bogey" and it has always stuck. Can't always acheive it especially when spraying the driver! but a good target nontheless.

A few years ago I managed to have no 5's. It was my best ever round (-2 gross) but a nice quirky stat to go with it!! Can't see it being repeated too soon.

I managed it years ago and got 6 dunlop 65's. Shows how long ago it was, but did get my name in the Sunday Express. Probably helped that course only had two par 5's.

Now thats a great effort, I was thinking that as a target but with a 600 yard par 5 on our course I dont think I have too much chance.
