Keep your cool

One this I do not get with England is it’s failures to cope with the weather.

Our public transport sector along with aviation and road network collapse in extreme heats yet the rest of the world carries on as is. The same happens when it’s cold or snow.

It’s fair to say we have access to most resources in form of materials and I’d like to think the consultancies are not full of blaggers, yet here we are with bridges buckling under heat and roads/runways melting. ??‍♂️

On a side note, does opening the loft hatch really help?
Assuming your loft is insulated then yes. Instead of the heat being trapped at the top of your house by the insulation it can escape through the hatch. Think of it as a chimney.

It doesn't bring cold air in but it does allow the warm that rises to escape rather than remain stuck and build up the temperatures.

Countries develop to cope with the Temps and weather that the country gets through the 365 days

Right now we have temps of 40 degrees ( highest we have ever had ) - 6 months ago or so we had temps in the same area of below freezing - so what should we be set up to cope with ?

Is there a magic house that keeps the heat in when it’s below freezing and then keep heat out when it’s temps not seen before

Roads and infrastructure having to deal with that varying level of temps as well - roads etc built to cope with mid temps etc not what we see right now

And other countries that have these temps on a regular basis are set up to cope - when I lived in Cyprus you acclimatised to the temp as it increased through the year , there was siestas during the hot periods , people stopped working from 1:30 , everyone had air con.

It’s a heck of job to have a country be prepared for such a varying level of weather fronts - France and Germany are also having issues right now in the same areas that wouldn’t expect this level of heat

The media doing a great job as usual. For 15 years we attend a particular area almost every day in the summer to tackle grass/wildland fires without a single mention on any media platform. Last two days (one fire). And its all over the media with 'global warming' as the narrative

Next they’ll be blaming the meat eaters and forcing us to go vegan!

Those poor people.

Same fire I can see by looking at the loft velux

Way to close to home.

It's here next to that green in the box , next to fire station

Email just arrived , club closed until tomorrow 6am at least ..(surprised they could stay open so long)

Apparently one of the house on fire is a friend of one of the school mum's I mentioned earlier

Ouch.. just horrible

Absolute nightmare to deal with. There's no hydrants on motorways and only 1800 letters of water on the truck. ??

I can imagine the lake on the 2nd and the fishing lake near the 1st will be emptied to attempt to get that fire house in the houses

Awful stuff. Heartbreaking.

Just hope everyone got out ok

Why is it that Brits panic when it gets hotter than normal.
Missouri has been having a heat wave for a while now, but there's no panic!

There have been a couple of bad ones in the past apparently though, but every building, home and car has aircon.
Plenty of Australia gets those sort of temperatures too. 'The Western Desert lives and breathes in 45 degrees' is a line from a pretty iconic song.

Are they pumping from the lakes? That does surprise me

They do use our lakes to refill the trucks sometimes .. there is a fire that is constantly going off in the field opposite (old landfill) and it's like every day in summer .. lake is low ATM

But it's a man made lake dunno if that's a difference?

Just heard another friend of a friend's house is gone. Wife's sorting through kids clothes ATM to give them something for their 3 kids to wear

I think the point is that those places get hot temperatures quite frequently, we don't. These are exceptional temperatures for this country so we are not geared for them.

As has been said before we are really geared up for trying to keep warm, not keeping cool.
