My lounge this morning was 28 deg.
I emptied a tray of ice cubes onto a plate and placed the plate in front of a fan.
It's now 24 deg. :)
Open your loft hatch to let the rising heat escape.

What's your best tip, especially for pets?
My neighbours dog is old and suffering

I've read during day keep curtains closed .. and windows closed to keep the heat out and what you have inside already in.

Create air flow with fans etc

Open windows at night to get the cooler air in (might be tough ATM it's hot at night aswell)

Opening window in day is prob worse you can do

I instructed my good lady to decrease the temperature setting on the air conditioning to 16 degrees. We are now very, very comfortable.

If you start to overheat wet a cloth with cool water, not ice cold, and put it on the back of your neck. It cools the blood that flows around that region and is near the surface of the skin and so is very effective.

This tip came from an army doctor who worked out in Belize and dealt with a lot of heat issues. I've used the tip and, unsurprisingly considering where it came from, it works

Use a cold compress on the inside of your forearms. Something to do with veins and close you your heart. Was told by a marathon runner and it works! Fine water mist and a fan is good.

I’m a shut all the windows and curtains advocate too. We will be shut up here by 10am today.

Live in the north ?
It's a serious consideration.?
I don't do heat..never have, even as a kid, once it gets to 25+ I struggle....
If these hotter summers are going to become more common, especially down here, then a move up north isn't out of the question

Ditto. We had it installed (mainly for the dogs!) a few years back and it's great. Also really useful when the boiler went kaput in February and we could use the units to heat the house.

We don't want to see you posting in Random Irritations later in the year when you get your leccy bill!:LOL:

Have to admit I've upped the schedule for Sunday to Tuesday for the heatwave .. back to normal Wednesday

Helped the kids sleep through it all

Having the solar provide the electric for it during the day aswell is a bonus lol

My lounge was 25 degrees this morning followed the advice to open up all the windows and doors until later in the morning and got it back to 22 degrees.

Another bit of advice I followed was to go out for my daily walk before the heat started to rise.

I have never liked hot weather and it's the same for my son. He does not have sort of heater that he actually uses in his bedroom and installed aircon in every bedroom and the lounge in his house.

I'm ok in the heat. I love it when it is like this, doesn't happen often in Monmouthshire!

Mind you, I turned down a game of golf this morning (well I am playing Weds, Thurs and Fri this week and am coming back from an injury) and I was going to paint the sleepers round the decking. That can wait till 7pm tonight!

Just no need to sit out in it during the day.

I'm in the office today. Wearing shorts - not something I normally do at work (the last time I did was the heatwave 4 or 5 years ago) but nobody has mentioned it yet. Sat behind a desk most of the day so it hardly matters! Travelling in was a pain, reduced service made me 40 minutes late. But on the plus side, my office is far less hot than the conservatory I work in at home!

Warming up the body before I go out appears to help.
I do this either inside or out with simple Tai Chi moves which help with circulation and flexibility.

Just completed a 2 mile walk / jog and I felt fine.

Did you know that a slate roof is 40C warmer than a tree trunk in this weather?
