well, just signed up at my uni today for the golf team to which there is a "trial" 2 weeks from now in which we will be playing a round of golf (obvioulsy haha). As soon as I left i just felt nervous lol. My lack of competitive golf (i.e no competitions for 2.5 years) is seriously going to hamper me i think. Seriously doubting if i should have bothered now to be honest. My whole game is rusty and certainly not consistant enough to put a decent round together to at least look respectable out there. Sh!t! Dont know what to do now

im worried about embarrassing myself haha. You think im trying to run before i can walk? I think ive had a jarvis cocker here

panicing lol, think the ball striking is still there. Areas for let down will be one of the following:

chipping
putting
wild drives

Haha so pretty much most of the game !

You're a student.... you only do 3 hours a week lol ;)
get on the course every chance you get a sort ya game out mate, get your confidence back.

when I was at Uni we were always on the course :)
it sounds like yer just a bit rusty mate

Just to put a frightener on you, last year I watched the Irish intervarsity finals at Enniscrone (was a member) iirc the highest person (bloke) played of 3 the rest, ladies included, were a bit lower with the lowest being +4. Awesome to watch.

But you have nothing to lose and I would go for it too.

Go for it.
Your a student so have plenty time to practice, so get out on the course and practice chipping and putting, those are the areas that will be a bit rusty if you not played for so long.

Hi Chris, played Enniscrone yesterday for first time, great course, although i didnt do it much justice :(

Where in Donegal are you??

Go for it, just enjoy the game. Playing uni team golf was some of my most enjoyable golfing memories. It was a good few years ago but i remember the trials were just a game and a get to know everyone, and my second stint at uni i was lucky enough to be a member of Royal Aberdeen for £100 a year.
Which uni are you at?

I still think it is one of my favourite courses, I am near Lettekenny and play at Portsalon another fantastic links course which give Enniscrone a real run for it. If you are ever wanting to play give me a shout!

take a 4 or 5 iron off every tee
play away from the bunkers near the green
aim for par and bogey golf,
and youll sink a few putts
and youll beat most of whoever turns up

forget ego and big drives on a qualifier like this
bore the socks off them

I like this advice, it sound and something i plan on replicating on the day. The only [****] i shud find is my swing, il be aiming well away from anything else that is bad :)

Have heard a lot of good things about Portsalon as well, would love to get down for a game sometime.

Really enjoyed Enniscrone, some great holes. Think the 16th is probably my favourite, although theres not too many weak holes at all.

Im at City of Derry so if you ever fancy some parkland golf give me a shout also
