They hit our village every couple of months.
As I type this I look out on the manse, which has a long driveway.
Every time they trudge up there to leave their leaflets, how daft is that.
They seem to leave me alone now, perhaps it was the 'how many times' lecture I gave them a year ago.

This is the thing I detest most about them. Last time they knocked on my door I answered with "Oh yes you're the lot that advocate killing children by refusing them potentially life saving treatment such as blood transfusions. You're worse than the Catholic church. They may rape and abuse children but at least they don't murder them"

Strangely enough they haven't been round for a while now.

An old mate of mine was the best. If they came calling and he could spare the time he would invite them into his house. He used to keep them there for 3 or 4 hours. They couldn't wait to get out in the end.

Personally I go by the " do as you would be done by"; even though I'm an amateur anarchist communist, an atheist, and despise golf dress codes, i am polite, thank them for their interest, and wish them a good day.

Religion has been the cause of many terrible things, but also does many wonderful and good things. I still don't believe in god though.

They are usually very pleasant. Why not be pleasant back.

The blood transfusion thing is a bit of a red herring - would you say the same about parents who won't give their kids the MMR vaccine?
Not exactly the same, but not totally different either, although I have sympathy for the kids in both cases.
The fact that I disagree with them, doesn't mean I am right.
Now, The AVON lady - that is a completely different subject and they should be against the law

Got a guy in work who's one but he never talks about it and certainly doesn't try and put his faith over to anyone. He takes the odd day of A/L for a meeting or religious day but aside from that nothing out of the ordinary. A quiet chap and reserved but can't hold that against him

As a manager of community use within a school we often hire out halls for large meetings/gatherings.

They all dress very smart, have great manners and are very courteous. So i have no problem with them!

That said, they've never knocked at my door. I'd send one of my daughters to go talk to them if they did, they could talk a glass eye to sleep!

not anymore mate. the law changed ages ago. under 16's have the descision made by a doctor on if they need blood or not. the parents get a say but doctors word is final

Also, when I was wee my mate (a JW) wasn't allowed to borrow Ghouls and Ghosts for the SNES due to the satanic theme.
It was ace n all.

I've always found that a polite "I'm not interested" sends them on their way.
They're less of a bother than folk going round doors selling conservatories/monoblocking/replacement gutters/memory foam mattresses etc.

Has anyone thought of combining the Jehovah's Witness groups with double-glazing and also offering to tarmac your drive at the same time? Then you could save time by telling one person to clear off instead of three?
