working from home. just had the Jehovahs round

2 questions;

why do they bother ??

Is the fact their pamphlet is called the 'Truth' the very definition of irony ??

We had the round once and I told them we were athiest never been back since. Should not be allowed anyway

My wife was courteous enough to chat to them about 18 months ago, and now their around every month with a new leaflet :angry:. But at least they ask for her by name so I don't need to stand and chat with them .

One of my mates invites them in everytime they come calling, he's bought a copy of the satanic bible just for those occaisions which he sits on the coffee table just before answering the door!

I sit about 8 feet away from a practising Jehovahs witness, she's trying to explain the virtues of it and tell people what they should believe, I actually love it as I come from a catholic background I have some monumental debates and i'm not even an overly devout catholic I just have my belief but never openly go out and broadcast it. Faith should be personal and kept personal and practised in the right places never taken to someones doorstep and thrust upon them regardless of the religion or belief

Their lot have a hall near ours and often knock at ours and I usually politely tell them I'm not interested.

My biggest problem is why do they think its acceptable to knock at peoples doors ramming their beliefs at people

Even better to answer the door in womens undies and shout over your shoulder "Barry I'll be there in a minute and I'll ask if they want to join us!"
They will actually cross the road to avoid your house after that.

we had some the other day and the woman had a little girl that was blatantly not her child. do they do this thinking they are less intimidating with a kid in tow?

Should not be allowed mate should be a law against it. It is at weekends they used to attack out area. It is the kids I feel sorry for they had small children with them no older than 8 dressed up in suits or dresses wandering round with them on a lovely Saturday morning while their parents and grandparents spouted their beliefs at people. Children that age should be outside playing and having fun not walking round dolled up listening to their parents preach:rant:

It did get me thinking, do they make good employees? they are obviously driven, tenacious and thick skinned, perfect for some kind of sales role

i used to work with one, he had his payroll set up direct from work that something like 25% of his wage went direct to his "church" irrespective of his religious beliefs, he was a twonk. I can see them being good sellers though!

A pal of mines assistant is one and has been for 20 years, he has 10 kids but does hold down a job in a very large well know company. I am told that is very strange and I know he gets huge flack within the family for having a corporate job, he also has to support more than just his own family because he has some money.

His wife is physically in bad shape because she has had so many children but is not allowed an operation...

Religious freaks and god bothering nuts need to wake up and smell the coffee! Ive seen many things that "religion" has been responsible for and it aint pretty! This world, past and present would be a whole lot better without it. All you have to do is turn on the news and hear of some Catholic priest thats raped a 5 yr old boy or some Muslim nutter blowing up a hotel full of tourists etc etc it goes on and on! The church and god squad in my village are the biggest bunch of politicians, hypocrites and trouble makers going. They are greedy, selfish and down right aggressive in all matters.

I can just about understand finding solace in a faith but when you try and preach or force it onto others it makes you an unwanted pest! I cant wait for them to knock at my door!

They bother because they believe that judgement day is coming and if you're not with them, then you'll have a life of eternal damnation. They are just trying to save your soul and I think it's quite nice that they feel they need to.

A couple came to my house last week and I told them I was an atheist but we still had a rather pleasant 5 minute chat about all things god. Such as their belief in creation versus mine in evolution. They said that matter can't be produced out of nothing, which provides proof of a god and because we have many beautifully designed things there must be a "designer" (I did ask who designed the designer if that was true) They said that evolution can't be proved i.e. wondering why apes were still around if we evolved from them - I pointed out we didn't evolve from apes, they're just our distance cousins, to which they said evolution talks about mutation but experiments have been conducted to mutate fruit flies that proved you can't reproduce from a mutation (I don't think they quite understood what a mutation meant)! They also said that if I don't believe in god then I must be happy to accept I won't be saved when the end comes. They couldn't grasp the fact that even as a Dad to be I'm happy that I'm made up of carbon atoms and when the end comes, that's it for me.
I was happy to listen to them chat and was friendly, but I do find it hard to speak to someone with such inherent beliefs without coming across as patronising

Still hey gave me some great bed time reading and it's always good to talk
