I figured taking that much sand from UK sites would cause mayhem. Isn't a fair bit taken off-shore? Drop in the bucket for some dry countries......and for drainage I wouldn't think the sand quality would matter that much as long as it's not too fine of a grain. Jeez.....I can only imagine how much it would cost to just cover one golf course with a decent layer of sand.....
£12M, I understand, to sand-cap Loch Lomond GC. Also we have several members travelling from Harrogate to join up with numerous groups who make them welcome. Harrogate GC is the best course near you with a very large Senior's section..... have found them no more stuffy than most Golf Clubs...... our place is very much an exception to the rule.
Played at Wike a couple of times before I retired (so....over 10 years ago). They were tearing the crap out of the parking lot and I think just putting in new building facilities. I liked the course if I have the correct one in my head....a lot narrower than what I am used to playing on. I haven't played Harrogate, but nobody I play with considers it the best course in the Harrogate area....better than Rudding from what I hear. We've had a number of Harrogate members switch over to Knaresborough. Wike seems to be invisible.....nobody I talk to even mentions it. Not very far away.....I wonder why?
10 years ago it was a 'Goat track'...... there's been over £4M invested since then in improving the course, buildings & practice facilities (there's nowhere better in the area) & whilst it's rated as the easiest course in the area it means you're not going to get beaten-up by the course during adverse weather etc.
Ah, yes, error!!....... IMO Pannal GC would easily be the very best (though very bad in winter) but Harrogate, the best of the rest, though the enormous size of the Senior's section must bring issues over getting a game in their Teams & generally integrating with the main Club membership. I've played with our Senior's Team there & get the feeling that it's very much a Club within a Club.

Many folks wouldn't know of us as we don't offer 'Opens' as the owners don't need to generate funds in that way since Pay 'n Play, Societies & Corporate are fitted around a small membership base where everyone pretty much knows everyone else. There's a small but active Senior section giving lots of opportunities for golf at other Clubs in the area via them & the LDU (Leeds Union of Golf Clubs- just £15 to play at the best courses in Leeds).
It offers 12 months of the year golf (has been fully open this winter) with outstanding practice facilities & 7 Coaches
At just under £1,000 for 7days its the cheapest in the area & filling up fast.
