Last minute invite to play for the first team at Greetham as they were short.
Very windy day, gusting 20mph made it a little more difficult, but,
had a good round but it just wasnt good enough to win.My partener was also called in to play. We gave a good effort, competed for evey hole (both of us) but their knowledge of their course and especially their greens (very fast and major borrows)saw them get an early lead and hang onto it. But we were having a go on every hole which was good, certainly no embarrassment which made me feel good. ;)

Local knowledge can make a big difference can't it HNJ. Good battle by the sounds of it though.
Maybe if you play a match away from home you should get an extra shot to compensate for it. :p

As an observation though, I did notice that playing with this team and being off last, we teed off 1200, played the round, had a couple of drinks and chat afterwards (couldnt stay for the meal, things to do) drove home 60 miles and was in my house at 6pm.
Probably the pace of play helped the game, we never seemed to stop or wait for anyone.

That's my old course, dod you play the lakes?

Yes, and I like it! I played there years ago but it mustve been the other course cos I didnt remember all the stuff there now.

Ahh .....Greetham Valley, brings back memories........and the scene of my own Golfing Pinnacle.

A 2 over Gross 74 around the Valley Course
(the one with the long Par 3 over the vaalley from the Clubhouse ?)

No idea how I did it, and still waiting for it to happen again, but needless to say, I still have the Card. :D

Nice courses.

Played Greetham a few weeks ago, scene of my triumph in the society's bogey comp - 2 under round the Lakes (should have been 3 or 4 under but I made a hash of 17 & 18).

Didn't do as well in the afternoon round the Valley.

How was your putting?

Not too bad Bob, I had more difficulty (as did others)standing still on some greens it was that gusty. I sunk most of what I had to as did my partner, only had a couple where I wondered what the hell I just did, but generally not bad just missing out on 3 or 4. Some of the greens were a tough read and I didnt do badly. Some of the hole placements were so scary, barely touch the putt from 3 feet and finish 6 feet past sort of thing, but I think I only had one 3 putt. :D
