Juniors with electric trolleys! Should this be banned

I carry advocate carrying. Kids who take so much junk in their bags that makes them feel the need to use a trolley need to be gripped and given a good hard shake.
Too many people are of the holiday mentality that they need to pack enough clothes for a weeks rainy golf.
It's quite simple, 5 balls (if you lose 5, I doubt you are doing well enough to count in the placings) handful of tees, one cloth, an extra glove (in case you get a hole in one! Hey!) and that is it. If you think it is going to rain, wear a jacket, take it off if the sun comes out but for Gawds sake don't be packing 2 dozen balls, 2 andrex (other bogroll is available), a full set of wetgear, a toothbrush and 3 jumpers.

Remember comrades, this is a sport not a daytrip. Many of us blokes could go on a weekend trip away with a bag that would easily fit in hand luggage compartments and contain less than some carry in their golf bags.
Here endeth the sermon.

I'm not adverse to electric trolleys and might even be inheriting one in the next few months (don't tell the HID, We have no space for it!) but I find carrying more convenient when I'm always looking for my ball in the trees/guff/etc.

What about:

Pencil to fill in the scorecard.
Pitchmark repair tool.
Ball Marker.
Sharpie to mark balls.
Snack and drink - a litre of water adds some weight.
What if it is raining, so you have full wet gear on and an umbrella, and then the sun comes out?

Plus I'd rather take too much stuff I don't need, than find out I haven't got something I do need.

I carry most of that stuff (although the sharpie, pencil, pitch repairer etc...all live in my trouser pocket. Can't be arsed to fanny around looking for it in my bag on every hole.

I also carry full waterproofs and usually a bottle of water and a chocolate bar or two and don't struggle to carry over 18 holes. I'm 25 but have suffered with lower back problems (mostly due to bad posture and lack of exercise), but I find it fine to be honest.

I might whip out the leccy trolley for 36 at Blackmoor, but probably not, might just get a buggy instead :D

Me too, carry that is.
Typically when it's wet and muddy, it's much easier to carry. Most often I take a half set and my pencil bag, sometimes my stand bag with a full set.

I own an electric trolly, but typically use it for the summer, multiple rounds in one day, or competition.

However I have no problem using a trolley, when I carry I don't think I am more of a man or anyhting like that.

Really I was just pointing out, I'd rather be a well prepared wimp, than an underprepared, macho man.

I use a push trolley and I'm only 24. The reason for that is that I have 2 dodgy shoulders from years of rugby. However I have always preferred using a trolley anyway as it means less strain on your body and in my eyes makes swinging a club a lot easier.

Weirdly, I find it more tiring and uncomfortable pulling a normal trolley.

I'm looking forward to using a Powakaddy for the first time though. I have a feeling I won't look back :D

In my youth, if someone rocked up at a Juinor Open with a trolley (never mind if it was electic) they were mocked relentlessly.

I miss the good old days.

I will carry until I no longer can… but that's me

Answers below. If you feel the need to carry excessive kit, go right ahead. Those carrying will get round the course more efficiently though.
What about:

Pencil to fill in the scorecard. Pocket
Pitchmark repair tool.Pocket
Ball Marker.Pocket
Sharpie to mark balls. Pocket or bag or at home, 15 grams isnt going to kill you
Snack and drink - a litre of water adds some weight. I eat before going out, its called planning ahead, a half litre of water is plenty as most courses have a tap out on the course somewhere
What if it is raining, so you have full wet gear on and an umbrella, and then the sun comes out? wear a windbreaker/waterproof top and an umbrella, tell me you shoot your best score wearing a matching set of binbags.

I dont see the problem in it to be honest. Im 18 and have an electric trolley and tour bag :). Now juniors who get handed everything to them by their parents, that really annoys me and you find these are the people who normally go in huff when they play crap or start throwing clubs into the ground etc.

Do people actually use those pitch mark repairer thingys?

Not even sure what they are for.

Anyway, I don't have any extra room in my pockets with my cigs, lighter and the glove out of my back pocket for posing.

Owen, its not about money, I used to have a Mizuno tourbag and carried it. Its about managing what you actually need. FFS you are only ever a few hundred yards from the clubhouse, carrying enough gear to get you across the Amazon basin is just over doing it.

Surely it's about what you want, rather than what you need?

Golf is a hobby to most people, so really there is no NEED involved. People should just do whatever they want. If they enjoy knowing they have everything they could require to play available, good for them.

People don't need most things in life, designer clothes, cars that can do 150mph+, domestic animals...
The list is endless, but like trolleys and overloaded bags, if people enjoy these things, let have them.

Of course you are right Surefire, there are certainly more important things in life. If you concentrate on golf for a moment though. A lot of guys don't quite 'get' etiquette. Leaving trolleys on the wrong sides of greens etc. Carrying negates that to a fair degree, of course there are still some eejits that will chip onto the green, pull their putter and walk up rather than bringing their bag too. Especially during winter though, following ropes or marked grounds etc does take longer than dandering across the course bag on back and quickly wears a brown path on the course detracting from its looks.

My opinion. Let them do it if they want to be lazy and get mocked endlessly by the fit kids.

How is it gonna knacker your back, though? Surely more chance of doing an injury having 3 stone in front of you (your gut) than 3 stone on the back.

People who carry;-

And people who don't;-

I rest my case, m'lud.

:D :D :D :D

Runs for cover

LOL JF, people that genuinely dont need trolleys are giving themselves so much extra grief when it comes to charging, storing, cleaning and using them. For something that is supposed to help, there seems to be an awful lot of manual carrying and pulling out and putting away involved.

Wow Brendy - Long irons and carry bags - what a hunk!! :D

If I use my trolley and bag, I'll just have to get over the fact that I am somehow deficient as a male and marvel at those who lug their kit over a shoulder clunking and clicking their way round the place.

Whatever happened to live and let live.
