Joining Fees

Golf is like so many things in life, you pays your money and you makes your choice. You can pay £30 for a pair of shoes ( I just have) or you can pay an awful lot more (I just have), they both do the job but one is much better quality than the other.

Golf clubs (member owned) are much the same, if you don't want to pay a joining fee that's fine there should be a course to suit your budget somewhere locally, on the other hand if you want an exceptionally well maintained, well serviced course that you can play whenever you want you must expect to pay for the privilege in both a joining fee and your subs. Quality always has and always will cost more.

Are you still at WGC? When I inquired last year they were waving the joining fee. As have quite a few clubs round herts/beds.

Yes I am, and I believe that the club (or any other) will suffer in the long term from waiving joining fee's, imo its a retrograde step unfortunately resulting from the economic climate.

If you have no joining fee you inevitably will attract a percentage of 'transient' golfers who wish to play golf rather than be members of a golf club. Personally I have been in the club for the long haul and enjoy the benefits of being a club member, I have no problem paying for that privilege.

The club I'm looking at joining has started doing a joining fee but it's only £150, and the membership is only £580 at the moment.
It will be going up soon due to a new owner who is spending ALOT of money doing the club up.
They have offered me a deal which is because I'm new to golf, if I take a 3 month trial for £99 which includes 5 lessons and then take on a full 12 month membership after at £580 they will give me the £99 back and there will be no joining fee, so that's 15 months golf for the price of 12 with no joining fee. Good times.

That's a realistic fee not grands

That's an excellent deal - even if there's no evidence of the investment and you decline the rest of the offer after the 3 months! The Lessons alone could well be worth that price!

Virtuocity,,,Dave ..have been trying to PM you re an offer at my gaff which may be of interest!!!
Could you Pm me if you want to discuss, have sent you base details to whet your interest????
Cheers
Jimbo:)

Managed to find a deal at a club only 15-20 mins away.

Normal fees are £920 plus £750 joining fee.

They have just launched a student membership (although not currently advertised) and got in for £300 a year (whilst I'm a student) with no joining fee.

Boom.
