Joining a golf club....

Hi I've been playing for about 3 years now. Got Down to a 12 handicap. Now I would like to join a club.
What should I be looking for when I join and how much should I be looking to pay each month/year. ? How can I tell a good club from a not so good one? Many thanks terry

Hi and thank you. Yes sorry I live in Essex in the surrounding area of hornchurch. I've played mostly in Essex and north Kent.

I live in Kent and I expect private clubs are the same in Essex pricewise. My 7 day annual subs are as near to £1,000 as makes no difference.

There are many different clubs offering many different subscription choices these days. If I were you I would be deciding on the top two or three courses that I would like to play at on a regular basis and then see exactly what is on offer from them prior to a final decision. Ask for a curtesy round if you havn't played them and check that they will suit your golf needs ie how many comps they run, are the members sociable and not clique'y

You have the money and these days you are the master.

I'm in a similar situation on the same patch. Everywhere seems to be between £1000 and £1350. We've just been offered £995 for the first year instead of £1350 for the first year at Stockbrook, if we join as a group. Still undecided though.

Same here. I enquirer at stock but it's just a bit far for me to travel. I'm mulling between Top Meadow, Warley Park and Hainult. Do you live out by Stock?

Yeah Stockbrook is one of the closest to me. Never played Top Meadow, not sure what it's like, but I do know membership there is one of cheapest in the area.
