Surely you put it on here to be discussed?

If all you want is that warm fuzzy feeling that likes bring. Put it on FB...

It's an advert, woohoo!
I put it on here because it’s a nice advert that made me smile , made my daughter smile and laugh her head off and sometimes it would be a good thing for something on the forum that’s just nice

Not everything needs to be ripped apart - and sometimes if there is nothing nice to say just don’t say anything. But that’s too hard for some

In a time where the country is being ripped apart by politics thought it would good to just have a little nice warm feeling

It's done its job if it gets people to go to the stores and spend money.
Arguably, seeing as JlP posted their first ever loss earlier this year, it ain't working as well as they'd like.
Once the Xmas sales figures are in and the cash counter then we'll know if it "worked" or not.
Personally, I feel the days of these huge , multi-department stores are numbered.

There days are numbered for the same reasons golf clubs are... The next-gen are too bone idle to get off their LFA's and have a life beyond the front door...

You put it on an open forum where people can discuss things. If you don't want it discussed (good or bad) don't post it.
You've been on here long enough to know what would happen.

As to the bit in bold, if an advert can really take you away from real world problems. Then lucky you.

Blimey - what a miserable bunch some people are , it’s just a feel good advert with a bit of warmth at this time of year

Not everything has to be dissected down to the 9th degree 🤦‍♂️
If it was December already, I could see you point. However it’s the middle of November, and whilst the shops want you to buy more presents and from them, it’s too early to be stoking the fires of junior excitement over Xmas.
Think about it this way, the longer you make each Xmas period the shorter their life love of the period will be.

It is rather nice and fun - though not targetted at curmudgeons it might convert a few :)

Not a generational thing at all, at least not in my case.

Why on earth would I want to sleep into a town or city centre with all the accompanying problems of transport, parking etc.

Milling around with lots of aimless souls, many of whom have no consideration of others.

No guarantee that the shop(s) have the desired items in stock

Alternatively I could shop via the internet in the comfort of my own home.

Tough choice!

I assume that if you are say, a Sainsbury's shopper, you are unlikely to be converted to being an Asda shopper due to a very expensive advert. Aren't we all creatures of habit?

Proper old school here... I actually like to try 'stuff' on and see how it looks and fits and wether it has the right 'feel'... Can't for the life of me get my head around buying furniture without touching it trying it for fit/comfort etc... Plus, I don't actually mind interacting, with others, face to face...

Lass on TV yesterday morning giving it large about the dragon being a metaphor for those excluded from Society needing to be welcomed in as it is Christmas. How lovely!

What is all this snow and ice cobblers? Xmas day in Monmouthshire? It will be 10 degrees and raining. As it always is.

My missus and I were discussing this the other day. All the big names are now doing similar things. At one time everybody waited on the JL advert but now it's just another amongst many. We just feel its all getting a bit much, especially as this type of advert was being broadcast from the start of November. I think it's just overkill.
I actually like shopping at John Lewis. If you shop around there prices are no worse than anyone else, and you get good customer service and guarantees.

The physical version you mean? Replaced by the online behemoth version

Oh dear, where will people go to look at the goods before they decide to buy them cheaper online.

Nothing I enjoy more than social interaction but a trip to a shopping centre doesn't provide that.

As for furniture buying most stores are, fortunately, not in the graveyards that we call the High Street. Out of town retailers generally supply parking and shopping in an uncrowded environment.

The online stores will have 'Look and Feel before Buy' stores on the High Street - maybe one or more will share the same 'shop window' store. You make one or more requests on-line, and 2 days later the items will be in their store in the back store. Everything security tagged in some way. And no staff. You log in to their system in the store and your items are brought from the back store to fornt via conveyor belt (sounding a bit Generation Game now). If you like something of what you've seen you go to a terminal in the store and click Buy - the security tag is deactivated and off you go with your purchase - or you request it to be delivered to your home.

maybe...
