Jezz reveals all...

Okay, for all those vaguely interested, my score in the Saturday Stableford was... no, first let me bore you with one or two details (don't panic, no blow by blow, shot by shot account - only the 1st hole. May still go on a bit though).

1st hole - nice soft draw up the right with the Ping G5 3-wood leaves me 110. Tough call - pushing it a bit for a gap wedge, not quite far enough for a full wedge. Opt for the latter, knock it 20 yards through the back, semi-duff the chip (grass growing the wrong way) and ultimately miss a five-footer with the Ping Anser for an opening double.

Develop a love-hate relationship with the Anser from then to the 12th - leave virtually every putt 3-5ft short, then invariably hole out

Still only 2-over on the 12th tee though (19 points going out), then go bogey (bunker off tee), bogey (terrible terrible heeled teeshot with the G5 3-wood), bogey (three putt), treble, to kill any hopes of a score. Treble really as a result of misjudging the wind off the tee and hitting a draw for the first time all day with the Wilson Dd6+ driver (straight into the world's thorniest bush)

Finish birdie, par, bogey for a grand total of 33 points

Analysis

Wilson Dd6+ driver: generally good - no real problems
Ping G5 3-wood: love this club, may have earned a permanent recall (even forgave it the disastrous heeled shot as I was trying to force it a bit)
Makser AS40 utility: one shot only, but went well so may give it another go
Wilson Dh6 utility: nice headcover, but it never came off so don't know
Mizuno MP-60s: loved them, will get another outing next time I play
Snake Eyes wedges: felt really confident with these, and realised how worn out the faces are on my Mizuno MP-Rs. Love the little bit of extra action, so definitely back in
Ping Anser putter: love-hate as I say. Discovered it was 33.75ins so a bit shorter than usual, which meant it felt light - hence constantly leaving it short. However, felt really confident from close range, so may try and find some lead tape to beef it up a bit and give it another go in the big GM Order of Merit event at Thorndon Park on Friday

Anyway, final score was 33 points so well done to Owen_Thomas - drop me a PM with your postal address and I'll send those molten Donnays off to you (or possibly something a little classier!)

Steady stuff Jezz, I'm surprised no one really raves about the G5 3 wood. It's probably one of the last ones made with a deep face which makes it perfect of the tee if the drivers misbehaving.

I switch between that and a TM Burner i picked up 2nd hand depending on how well im driving.

Well done sir on a steady performance. Interesting that several clubs are worth another look and so maybe it is worth holding onto all those discards. Now what have I got left in the spare room...

THANKS!

Was looking forward to trying out the Donnay ball as well

Been a good bit of fun Jezz. Just what the forum needs.

Perhaps we can do again with scores from other Forum menbers aggregating on a monthly target or something.

Hope you are well and it was good to see you after all this time at The Belfrey.

Alex

Murph,
If only I'd been blessed with the combined super-power of hindsight with time travel...

Seriously, I don't think it's anything to do with the clubs, but more to do with my back. It had been getting progressively stiffer right at the base throughout the summer, which coincided with me no longer being able to hit my wedges out of my own shadow.

I hadn't picked up a club since The Belfry until Friday night when I went to hit a few, and that was the first time I'd felt I was swinging really freely for a long time - and hey presto, suddenly I'd picked up 15-20 yards with my wedges. This may in part be due to a long overdue bid to lose a bit of weight which has seen me walking at least 3 miles every day this week for starters (suspect that may have helped loosen the back up a bit).

In the comp, everything felt good and I was back to normal distances (and before one of my kind colleagues responds, I'll humour them by saying, 'yes, that's right - 120 with a 7-iron').

Anyway, more importantly, I really enjoyed the round, so in the words of a now-deleted post, I'd even be as bold as to venture, 'The Boy is Back'...

Glad your golf is back, and that you are swinging easier. May be a trip to a physio might be in order? He could not only free it up, but also give you some exercises to do to keep it loose.

Ashamed to say I have been to physios/osteos in the past and know the exercises I should be doing but quite frankly am not - blame it on laziness, busyness, kids or whatever, but I will definitely be getting back into doing them especially with winter on the horizon

know the back problems all too well lately, though mine started from a gardening session due to an all too enthusiastic swmbo. stiffer than hell after a day on the keyboard or in the car but loosens up fine when walking or just as I reach the 17th!

good knock under the circs'.

are we to be given a 'state of the nation' before the main event Friday so that we can forecast the results?

Murph,
This may in part be due to a long overdue bid to lose a bit of weight which has seen me walking at least 3 miles every day this week for starters (suspect that may have helped loosen the back up a bit).

Jezz, is it 3 miles to the tea trolley and back? I'd order in if I was you :D

BTW the snake eyes wedges are nice sticks and very under rated.
Myself and TonyN bought a couple each at the golf show last year, I won't tell you how much we paid for them but i've spent more on a curry.
As for the back, just keep it moving.

nice one Jezz - decent score that. Only bad news is that it sounds like you have expectatons for next time out...gulp! I am sure you'll be fine ;)

Well done Alexgolf - or is that Mystic Meg? The wooden tees are all bagged up and ready to go. If you PM me your home address, i will get em out to you....you'll need em to peg up those premium donnays :D

Hard luck everyone else
