I'm hoping someone more adept with iTunes will be able to help me....

Just downloaded iTunes onto my Windows laptop. I have a load of music on the laptop already that is in MPEG-4 Audio format.

The problem is I can't move any of this music into iTunes? Is this due to the file format?

Strange thing is the music was all in iTunes via a previous laptop so not sure if it was held in a different format?

Anyway, I would be keen to get all of my music into iTunes and onto my iPhone if at all possible so any assistance would be gratefully received :)

Thanks in advance

It's times like this I wish I understood itunes better.

I know that itunes is fussy about file extensions though....

If you've got a new laptop, how did you get all the music onto the new one?

I'd be tempted to make sure you've copied across every last folder and try the "add to library" function.

Thanks Dave,

I'm clueless about iTunes aswell!

I got the music on my new laptop from the micro sd card from my old mobile phone. Now I've got an iPhone thought I could just chuck it on the laptop, into iTunes and then sync with my phone. Appears that it's not that easy....

Can't drag and drop, add to library and the files won't even play in iTunes or QuickTime. They will play fine in windows media though.

What a pain in the stones....

Like I said, I'm not good with this, but I don know that unless you copy across ALL files/folders connected to itunes, it won't work.

I did it the old fashioned way (copying every last folder within windows; i.e. searching drive C:)

Maybe an automated piece of software is the way to go.

Sharepod is handy. Allows transfer of music and video both ways. Can be a bit buggy at time when transfering lots of stuff but still better than Itunes
