.... I now hate stablefords......
Im not sure if im alone in this or not but i score much better in stroke competitions than i do in stablefords.....
Had a shocker today in our presidents prize finishing with 24 points.... Probably one of my worst to date... Hit some flaking shots at the wrong times.....
Lipped out on 5 holes..... all on the left side mmm couldnt figure that one out....Playing partners were consoling me all morning..... Im also getting a little bit nervy over short putts from missing so many....

Im not moaning or in bad form just that i prefer playing medals to playing for points..... I seem to stay more focused and goal orientated in medals....
When playing in stablefords i tend to get a bit haphazard and a bit too aggressive with shots knowing that i can walk away from a hole and still try make something on the next...
The downside to this is that i now have no shots on 7 holes so they have to be parred to get my 2 points....

Anyone else feel this way.....

Why not go out and play as if it's medal. I always start a stableford comp with the intention of returning a gross score.

A good gross will return a good stableford score. I don't now why you are separating the formats because both are stroke play. The advantage to stableford being that a bad hole can be picked up and reduce the slow play which you have also raised a problem about.

You really need to try and start finding positives in the game because I haven't seen many from ya lately which is a shame really. Especially considering the bottom of your signature.

I'd echo the above. Enjoy it and don't get so down beat about it, we play this game because we love it, not to make a living out of it.

And by the way, I love Stablefords.

And i know that i should treat stablefords as gross scores but its hard to do that when picking up a ball after making a double that you've no shot on.....
Id never mess around after being out of a hole...I much prefer to pick up my ball and mosey on...

If you are picking up because you are about to make a double how would you recover from that in a medal. Exactly the same approach needed. I still think it's fair to finish out the hole even if it's not worth a point it'll keep the gross score in your mind. Ok don't do it if you are not yet on the green but if it is a case of finishing with a putt or 2 then it's not an issue.

Just don't do what a player I was with did one time. 3 of the tee at a par three. Took another 2 to get on the green and then 3 putted. Was painful to be there.

I try and take a medal approach to all my golf in that I want it in the hole as soon as possible. If I'm in trouble, try and take the big number out of the equation. Sometimes a double is a good score! If I do have a nightmare, the consolation in stableford is there that a couple of steady holes and you are still in contention whereas a big medal hole makes it harder to remain competitive
