Having watched a bit of the Ryder Cup on TV, I was struck by the one overriding thought that I always get when there's golf on the telly......I wish I was playing golf rather than watching it

Participation is a much more satisfying experience than spectating.

So....

A bad day on the golf course is always better than a great day at the office. Same for when im sitting at home.

Also voted for playing. I was offered a ticket for the British Masters on Sunday but as this is my only chance to get on the course this week I declined in favour of getting 18 holes in.

Yep, voted to play, but in the past and in another context I remember being torn between watching Wimbledon finals and venturing out to play. Think I watched instead. Some moments are too good to miss (and no video recorders in those days).

It has to be play doesn't it??

No-brainer in my opinion - even if the weathers rubbish and you're hitting it sideways - gimme the fairway(or rough!?)

I am like that with any sport though, i would take playing over watching any day. golf is no exception- I only watch it because I began playing and got the bug. It's the closest I can get to playing whilst at home plus it is good to watch anyway don't get me wrong I really do enjoy it so I use it to get my golfing fix.

Play everytime.

Played today and veered between awful and very afwul most of the time but.........

Hit some great wedge shots and on the last we played worst score buys the drinks. Both hit average tee shots then I hit seven iron 10 yards short right of the green in front of a bunker then a bank, my mate landed 10 yards short,he chipped to 12 ft I flopped one over the bunker onto the bank and a roll down to the hole stopping all of 6" away!

Result? drinks were on him and I walked away smiling!
