Double standards is all that I'm pointing out.

the rules have always been in place they are just being enforced now with a heavy touch !

in response to some threads that got out of control ie the Rangers borefest, there is now a zero tolerance policy. common sense has left the building

As was said previously Rod, as directed by MikeH and the staff at GM.

Hold the bus. The Rangers thread was allowed to run for months with bigotry and all sorts. There are some here who are guilty of throwing bricks at glass houses!!!

Crawford, you are 100% correct and on that very thread there was "A Mod" who just kept adding fuel to the fire and stirring it up with his own remarks, was anything done????? No

Was it in the past, yes it was. It maybe gone but not forgotten, maybe he has forgot about it but many others still have it fresh in their mind and yet he thinks he has the right to pull threads that may offend him, double standards yes to right it's double standards.

After reading all the comments on this thread I must agree that since the new Mods have been put in place then the site is over censored and some are trigger happy to pull threads and issue warnings etc, maybe the Mods should listen to the members a bit more and maybe just maybe it will make things a tad more bearable on everyone.

Just a thought here , why dont all /any those that have such strong feelings re the moderating/moderating standards or rules email Mike with thoughts/ concerns & offer to become a mod , then you can become part of the team & have a bigger say on whats being moderated or not ..if ya want something changed become part of it & change from within , just a thought

**Ive read this reply twice and i can see some will take it as being a smart answer or trying to be funny answer , its not and isnt meant to be , it meant to be genuine & constructive so please take it that way***

Also the same question as the OP... what happened to the post about the Cleveland club fitting where a couple had posted their thoughts on the day?

I can't find it, but wouldn't have thought it would have dropped off the post list yet.

Its back about 5/6 pages in the lounge mate ,, round the 8th of feb .. or close to that

Look guys, we are going round and round in circles here, the mods are there to do a job and keep order according to the rules as laid down by Mike and GM.

Most mod actions are discussed beforehand, therefore mostly a decision to pull a thread is a group decision, it's not 1 mod flexing his muscles, these decisions are taken with the best interests of GM and the forum in mind,

I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are not proactive, we only ever react to what is posted on the forum, if everyone kept it clean and civil you wouldn't need any mods, simples.

We do not have targets for infractions, we have to be even handed, and sometimes that means giving an infraction to a mate, it is not an easy job and we are never going to win a popularity contest. It is often difficult to judge when to pull a thread, you are always going to upset someone, but generally if the shouts in favour are similar to the shouts against, then we are about right.

I've looked at the last few pulled threads in retrospect and agree that the right decision was made at the right time

Finally if you have a problem with a mod decision, don't air it on here, it is very unproductive, PM another mod and have them review the problem, if you are still unhappy then email Mike H, this is the proper proceedure , mod bashing is easy when you don't have all the facts and makes the forum look bad

Now can we talk about golf? :)

no one is mod bashing, just querying the process, this has to happen in the feedback section, not behind closed doors via PM, I think the grievance is valid & shouldn't be buried

If the consensus is that previously threads had gone too far, then maybe the current approach is a process that has to be endured before some middle ground is found. We aren't there yet if all slightly controversial threads are pulled at first complaint.

Homergate 1 & 2 would not have existed under the current climate, as they would have been complained about. They were some of the best threads ever

As for volunteering to be a mod  (**cough power trip**) :D keep up the good work gents

Another problem they have to overcome is that we Irish , English , Scotish ,Welsh & all others have different views or meanings on certain words , & also the use of words , are they being used in a bout of banter or not ..

I fell foul of this myself recently - using a Scottish colloquialism that when I checked the definition was a fair bit ruder than how it is used in context. But that's the problems with colloquialisms. If you don't know the word you look it up and out of context it can be inappropriate.

As it happens - on the general 'beiong offended' front. See the fuss over Paxo being 'rude' to some lad on UC cos he got a king wrong by 600 yrs. Purely a confection - a tissue of offence arising from the Twitteratii who can't engage in any sort of meaningful or reasoned discussion because they only have 140 characters to work with. Pathetic really. But that is the level of 'debate and discussion' today's instant twitteratii - an instant 'Sun headline' type thing with no real thought and just aimed at stirring it and attracting attention.

I feel partly responsible for the thread getting closed as I did express reservations and asked for some moderation in comment (didn;t ask for thread to be shut btw). However I do not apologise if I was. If there is nothing else that golfers are renowned for (though there is plenty :)) it is that we have a good and inate sense of decency, consideration and respect for others. Plenty of other forums out there but I'd hope that what is said on golf forum would reflect the nature of our sport - is that too much to ask for, or am I being naive.

Does that also mean I shouldn't nominate Homer as a Mod? Ever-present and possibly semi-modding already? :D

he has tried previously to influence moderation (stop it they're picking on me!!!) .... fortunately no one listens to him !

re this point, most on here would never knowingly want to cause upset/offence.

this is probably a poor thread to make a 'stand' over because religion is so emotive. I think it's certainly a legitimate topic of conversation if kept sensible, which I accept isn't always possible.

My point is a general one about overly sensitive responses to everyday subjects and responses of the Mod panel. It seems now caution is the watchword & I'm not sure that makes for an interesting forum :(

I didn't see what finally got the thread closed, I'm hoping that it wasn't closed due to anything I had seen by the last time I looked at the thread, that would have been pathetic. There were a few tongue in cheek comments and the odd mild joke.

A poster then made the comment that, through it's stance on contraception (particularly the condom) that the Catholic church helped to perpetuate poverty through excessive birth rates and the spread of HIV/ aids. Now if anyone happens to find that comment offensive then that really is a shame but it happens to be the truth. Perhaps the mock outrage and offence should be better directed than at anyone posting this.

I am also willing to bet that the majority of people who would be offended by these facts are so devout that they frequently do, or have, use a method of birth control and have religion in name only.

Unfortunately it would seem that it is those who have more faith and adhere to the direction of the church that suffer most.

I posted this in a thread and it was removed with no explanation, why?

Its a matter of fact, the Pope has gone and Celtic now have no hope.

It is far from offensive and if ANYONE cannot see the funnier side of that, well they need help IMO.

no pope or hope.jpg

that offends me, a grown man in a football shirt is just wrong :D

And he'll have headed off to the pub to drown his sorrows by downing a few pints of Cointreau...

BTW - He's no greetin' becauase the Pope has resigned - he's crying with laughter as the Rangers (deceased) fans can no longer mock with their 'No, no Pope of Rome' guff - cos they'd be right and he'd agree - will in a fortnight they will be.

Anyways seems like the auld geezer isn't going to keel over tomorrow - so that's good news - maybe we should all take a lesson on bowing out gracefully.
