It's all in the shaft for me

After using a standard Yonex 3i nanospeed driver for a few months, I was very inconsistent with my driving. I could hit it well at times, but some of my drives were wild to say the least.

I spent a couple of hours with Nicky (MGL) last week and he measured my swing speed/tempo and gave me a few drivers with different shafts to try out.

He recommended a Wishon S2S white stiff shaft, fitted it, and I played for the first time with it on Saturday.

All I can say is WOW, every drive I hit stayed on the fairway, the ball went exactly where I was aiming. I also outdrove my bro regularly for the first time. Even my mis-hits tended to be a lot better too.

To me, its made an absolute massive difference and resulted in me scoring 88 off the yellows.

I couldn't understand why some of you guys on here were always tinkering with your shaft set-up but now I do!

Intresting read Dean , Fair play & good luck with the new shaft .. did he change your stance or anything aswell ?

I dont understand all the shaft technology thing so for that reason i do be a bit sceptical of "such" an improvement by just changing the shaft .. looking forward to see how you go with it over a period of time with it ..

Hope it keeps improving for ya , best of luck

I don't understand all of the shaft technology either, but my driver feels like a different club.
No, he didn't change my stance or anything else.

I went to the range yesterday to confirm to myself it was not a one-off and yes, I was hitting them straight everytime.

My bro plays off 12 and he tried it a couple of times and couldn't believe the difference.

glad you have found something that suits you, THAT'S what its all about- some CS sessions just fit you with stiff if your 100mph or slightly over whereas a regular might, I say might suit YOUR swing and physique and how you load the shaft better.
Brings the fun back into golf doesn't it? :swing:

Good to hear Deano, I've had a similar experience when I borrowed an ex-demo Razr Fit this driver from our pro this weekend.

I hit a few shots of the heel of the club that still travelled 190-200 yards on a very wet weekend, good strikes had a total distance of about 230-240. The VRS driver only seemed to go 200-210 on a quality strike so that's quite a big gain. It's a bit of a happy accident but the RIP Nv shaft in the Razr Fit seems to suit me much better. Both clubs had regular shafts but the shaft in Razr doesn't seem to balloon and spin too much.

Needless to say the VRS is on ebay now and the Razr Fit is in the bag!

With the start of each hole (new driver shaft) and the finish (the beautiful Miura wedge) sorted, I would expect to see some Supplementaries submitted and that 27 handicap dropping like a stone.

Indeed. My aim for next year is to start playing competitive golf so hopefully it will.

I did chip in (with the Miura) from 40 yards on the 12th for a birdie on sat ;)

I haven't really gained any distance with mine but the consistency in keeping them straight has massively improved

Good to here another improvement! Makes golf far more enjoyable!

Heard really good things about Wishon shafts (and clubs) and the man himself is a legend! Quite a few of the 'latest and greatest' by the big OEMs were invented/developed by him 25-30 years ago!

the rest of your game must be in order if you shot 88. half the battle is keeping it on the short stuff off the tee. good luck and i hope its the same next time you are out!

Not quite sure how, but the wishon shaft feels like I have another driver, not quite used to seeing my ball on the fairway ha

Got my lessons soon in order to tidy up the poor parts of my game

Nice one mate. I got the same feeling with my driver fitting ( higher loft + heavier shaft) the difference was night and day.

You should start to see your confidence go up a lot and that boost filter through to the rest of your game.

Fingers crossed. Doing plenty of work thru the winter to improve.
