I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Good old Bill was having a torrid time of it. His brother had passed away and understandably he had a bit of a melancholy about him. His sister Dotty kept his spirits up though and it was on a walk with her that he chanced upon an astonishing row of daffodils that inspired arguably his best work. And so following my wonderful two day break in Oxfordshire I have to admit that something has changed. I guess playing those two courses was my own 'daffodil' moment.
I played like a tool on both days, and while I'd not like to repeat that level of performance, my ambitions have changed. The two courses were so different in character (as was the weather in both days), yet playing them both filled me with so much joy. I apologise to those who may feel this has gone unbearably 'poetic' but I don't think I'm driven to improve in the way I was before. Winning Hidden Gems has made me want to be able to 'get it round' better but you know what, playing off 18 would do me.
And then? Well getting out there to find some more 'daffodils', they really are quite stunning...
