I know it has been discussed many times before.

The scores in opens seem to be getting ridiculous these days

There was an Open here yesterday, best two scores from a team of four, stableford scoring

Winners had 92 points
Second was 91 points

Scores were being displayed on the clubhouse screen and I checked the format as it was being discussed by a group not playing

The organisers face said it all when she told me.

There is absolutely nothing ridiculous about these scores.
90-95 point totals were regularly winning best 2 from 4 comps long before WHS.

Yeah, it doesn't seem too far-fetched. If 90 points is 5 per hole, with two best scores to count it only means one par and one bogey from the group, or potentially two bogeys if one of them is a high handicapper. It's nothing crazy. If the scores were reaching the 100s then it'd start to be pretty exceptional.

I'm surprised the winners "only" had 92 points, I've only played that format twice and both times winners were 97 points. I'm sure I saw one around me not long ago and the winners had over 100 points.

Played in one at Tiverton a few years back that was two scores from three. We had 70 and were in the Top 10 of 50. Three low handicap members had 79 which was outstanding. Three visitors had 86. What's the point? I saw them play a couple of holes and they were all over the place.

Having just played this format, these scores don't make me question anything at all. Vast majority of teams in our comp shot high 80s/low 90s.

To further this, the individual scores in our team were 31, 31, 34 and 38. We shot in the 90s when it was best 2 of 4. None of us played particularly well. Again, nothing in the OP suggests foul play.

I suppose when you go about it theoretically
one net par and one birdie on every hole makes sense.

It made me go back an look at the card.

1st place Multiple 6 pointers and one 8 pointer on the hardest hole of the course
2nd place multiple 7 pointers.
