Imagine trying to swing a golf club with the upper body of those 2! Can you imagine one turning up for a lesson with a pro- now that would be a teaching challenge. I think I read somewhere that Tiger needs to start being careful as too much muscle can inhibit the golf swing.

I'm a bit of a late adopter to this thread having been watching the football, but interesting topic HTL!

For my two pence worth, no TW is not a cheat. Principally two reasons for this:

1) No PGA rule / Directive re eye correction.
2) Everyone of his peers (PGA Tour) can afford same treatment if desired. Laser eye surgery is not dear, having it done by the best is however!

On the gym and supplements thread, I've started back into my gym work heavy after a couple of years off. I go down the supplement route to help my training (3 Maximuscle shakes per day, creatine cycle etc). Without the supplements I find I put on muscle mass v slowly due to a high metabolism. Been back at gym 4 months now and have made some good gains. If anyone had the time, trainers, nutrionists that TW has then 6 months could go a long way to having you stacked like he is.

"its their nuts that shrink to the size of peanuts."

Just like jumping into the North Sea on a fine summers day!

Thanks for the info htl, never looked into this sort of thing before, it's scary thinking what is available nowadays for young athletes to take to improve their performance. Notice one of our rugby players is in a spot of bother over taking something on the banned list.... these guys are supposed to be professional sportsmen.

As an aside, I grew up living a few doors down from a chap who was a very good footballer. Played in League and Cup winning team in late fifties in Scotland. Always a fit man, even years after stopping playing I would see him out running at night he's often pass me as I was going t'other direction. Found out more recently that he is riddled with arthritis in his ankles and knees which had been exacerbated by the ready use of the needle in his playing days. He apparently had to sit on the bed and use bent coathangers to pull on his socks as he couldnt get movement in his ankles and kness until he had been up and moving for a while.

What are the guys taking these modern substances going to be like if they live to 65-70 years old.

HID took one look at the photo of Mr Olympia and LOL. Being a very astute lady, she immediately noticed that there was one obvious area that had been forgotten in the quest for development and that I had no reason to feel threatened.

Did you mean Creatine mate? If so that is a huge issue as to what constitutes a legal / illegal drug. At the moment Creatine is legal in all sports as it is a naturally occurring substance in red meat. This kinda stuff is my passion so any questions please fire away.

how many raw steaks do I need to eat for it to have an effect?

You need to eat a shed load of red meat, so much that you would be at a risk of a heart attack after a few weeks of doing it.

Very good Smiffy!

Great thread HTL, Just a shame it was ruined early on. I could see exactly where you wanted the thread to go and was looking forward to where it should of headed.

I dont think it is cheating, why, because there are no rules to govern it, as there are, banned substances.

BUT that I guess it comes down to opinion doesn't it and what people believe morally is right/wrong. Both examples you provided are improving the bodys condition in an un-natural way so where is the difference. Key word being un-natural

However laser eye surgery is socially accepted so alot of people will have no ill views about it.

As for banned substances, if the men in white coats said, 'well actually these substances are ok its only what your body produces a bit of' then the same view would probably be taken by the majority and again... socially accepted.

As for the first guy in the pictures, didn't his bicep explode or was that someone else?

As for the second guy well, he just looks wrong!

Don't steriods affect concentration? if so wouldn't this have an adverse affect on your golf?

They can do if taken in large amounts, that is why if a golfer for whatever reason were to take them (in large amounts) they would do it in the off season.

I dought that a golfer ever would, there are far better drugs to be taken.

Why do they give awards like Mr Olympian to people like this? To me they have a disease similar (although opposite) to anorexia, but body builders are rewarded for it and will not stop until they get a body like this. Mind you, if he said that I owed him a fiver, I'd give it to him.

Each to their own I suppose but i dont anticipate seeing one of these guys on my course.......as there aren't any mirrors!

Great thread htl, its certainly made me chuckle.

Great point!, its called Biga - rexia (Serious) and is the fastest growing psychological disorder in the UK. It really aint good, they see themselves as tiny whatever they do so just put more + more gear into themselves and eat lean meat, eggs ets like their life depends on it.

Loads of research is being done into this as we speak, due to some recent deaths / suicides.

I forget who brought the subject up last year about Pro golf and illegal drugs, I think it was swept under the carpet pretty quick.

Gary Player mate, and it worked, drug testing is now at nearly all tour events and they did catch one or two players out when they first started it off, they had both taken the banned substance without realising it was in their medication.

A golfing partner is on beta blockers that, among other things, reduce anxiety and tremors. We kid him that he is a better golfer for it.

Are amateur golfers taking beta blockers cheats??

You are right, you normally hear 'it's stronger than it was before' ten minutes before they bust it again.

Glasses bring your vision up to normal, and most cases not even that. They are also a pain in the rain, so have disadvantages too.

Contacts, now we are talking. I wear them. Definate advantage. Should be banned?

So that's why the missus changes subject half way through a conversation, or answers a question that was asked the previous day. :( She occassionally takes steroids for her Asthma.
