Is there a north south divide?

I think the biggest issue for me is why Scotland, with all its' top quality and considerably cheaper courses isn't producing Professionals on Tour by the bucketload???
One of the realities is most Pro golf is played in good weather on top quality parkland style courses which aren't as prevalent as Links ones up here. So maybe it has more to do with the courses played.

we cant afford balls. we all come down on the beverly hillbillies charabang and loot southern courses of all the lost gold plated Titleist pro v1's, sell them to the midlanders, then buy barrel loads of top flites to use on our goat mown northern hellhole courses.

Keep telling em our courses are 'ell holes... we don't want that southern trash littering our majestic links

I wouldn't worry mate. They're all frightened of heading north. If you ever see a Southerners school map, all it says north of Watford is "here be dragons".

My map ends at Watford. There is nothing north of Watford. Not even dragons.

South of Watford is bushey.

It's a very small map encompassing the known universe.

weather and youngster development, again weather permitting

Set up Yer Maw,set up.

Finally I think the SGU are getting there, ten years behind the EGU in terms of development but they are getting there at last.

I think if you are Cat 1 it doesn't matter if you are north, south, east or west. You are a mighty fine golfer. I don't think you can really say whether a scottish links is any harder than a tight tree lined course like Woburn etc. and you can only play in comps and put your cards in at the venue you find yourself at. Its like any level though, play well and handicap (in this case Cat 1) takes care of itself

Because of the higher cost of living and the extra cost of golf membership, us southerners practice much harder so that our membership is of equal value to up north, and enevitably our ability is much better as a result. Also our diet allows us to retain our sylph like figures in older age where deep fried Mars bars don't!
Zzzzzzzzz all this from what we would call a CHOMPER up here with a handicap like you got.

Yes you could be right there, but then again the best golfer to come out of the Uk has been Scottish & has 8 European OOM to his name & had 7 of them in a row. It will never ever be done again, but you can alway dream of it happening can't you.

Somebody is on the shandy again

aye but he went from amateur to Pro via the US scholarship programme.
There must have been some self serving interests in the SGU to come up so short, but then it seems to be the way in so many Scottish sports where the talent fizzles out as the beer intake increases! ha ha

Amusing though that the North to English is above the Midlands yet to me 'Northerners' as Southerners. This clip sums up the Scots V English divide nicely ;D

Maybe the southerners have had more practice time, as the midlanders, the northerners and even the Scots have been following their teams around Europe for years and have brought home lots of european cups/champions leagues, so giving us less practice time.

Danger UXB!!!!!!!!!

Think some of you boys on the mainland should wind your neck in a bit lol.
We have some very good golfers over here in northern Ireland, for a little place, there are plenty good players.
I would disagree with your depiction of monty as the best player from the UK, I would say he would happily hand over his oom titles for a major, let alone faldos 6!

Snowing in Scotland now! Too cold even for the range, saw a guy there and his left side was White. Lol
