My wrist is proper knackered.. what are my options?

What should I be asking, nay, DEMANDING from my local GP?

Is an ultra-sound or MRI scan something that I can insist on?

And is potential surgery actually worthwhile should it come about? or are the results not worth the bother.... basically will I ever golf properly again? :(

At the moment I'm wearing something like this..

According to this picture it feels like I have damaged the 'Flexor carpi ulnaris' as it hurts from the right underside of the left wrist, and halfway to the elbow...

and generally it feels like this.....

Ask for a referral to a consultant If it's something that's been there a while and not settling down ?
My previous GP was pretty crap, and I had to push like hell to get to see a Consultant for a very long standing knee problem, that my GP couldn't help with.
MRI & keyhole followed.

You should ask for a referral to a specialist in sports injuries. If necessary, go privately. Unless the tendon is ruptured, I doubt that surgery would be indicated.

How do you know it is a problem with flexor carpi ulnaris, by the way?

Book yourself an appointment with a good (recommended) sports physio.

OK it might cost you £35/40 for the appointment but they will be able to tell you what is wrong and whether they can help, or if surgery is needed. If the latter, they should give you a letter for your doctor for referral to a consultant. If they don't offer the letter, ask for one.

That's the route I took for my knee problem. Saw the doctor who read the letter, said that she ought to have a look at it, prodded it once (she seemed to have no idea what she was doing!) and said that she would refer me.

Stack'n'tilt!

Causes injuries to the wrist as well as the back does it?

You may need to get more modern clubs with softer shafts. Repetitive divot syndrome ? :D

Sorry to hear James, but your doctor should be able to refer you to a specialist. That's what mine did when i had tennis elbow, not that he was able to do anything. :(

Your GP should be able to refer you or at least direct you to a private sports physio but that'll depend on how long you've had the problem for.

If it's been less than a month - get ready - you may need to rest the wrist and take some pain killers and give it a chance to heal.

Only from the picture I posted above as that's exactly where I get the pain. When I press on the inner right side of my left wrist I can feel the pain for about 4 inches running down from the wrist towards the elbow.

Got the docs booked .... next Monday!... it'll probably be better again by then!!

Just read medical books 8 hours a day for 2 years and you'll be able to cure yourself :) ;)
Seriously, I hope it heals quickly. Lucky it's the left hand

Try asking your GP for an onward referal to either an Orthopaedic surgeon or a sports physio. Difficult to diagnose without examining the area in question.

Also, putting a spint on your RIGHT wrist when the problem is on the LEFT is a school-boy mistake... :D ;)

If I had a bad wrist like that, the last thing I would do is keep pressing it.
You're bringing it on yourself you are

LOL... so I should also stop hitting it with this big hammer?
