Is playing a different course important to you?

I have a very transient nature, however have found recently that playing the same course on several occasions has held many merits and surprisingly each experience has been very different. What is your threshold for the amount of times you play a course in any one year? and, for you, what makes each experience so different?

I am a member of a club so will probably have around 150-200 rounds a year on it. But I do love to try new places out and that is one of the benefits of this forum as you get to play other tracks at members guest rates and meet new people while doing it so everyone is a winner.

I like the change of a different course, one friend I play with regularly isn't a member at any course so we try to play a different one each time. That said I'm obviously happy at my own course, and if I'm just out knocking round on my own I like to try different things, like taking irons off tees where I would normally hit a driver, that for me almost makes it like playing a different course.

Thanks for the response and wow - that's a lot of golf on one course - you must know it really well? Is it different each time you play, if so for what reason?

I probably played around 150-200 at my club last year, and I dont tire of the course, that said I have also played 32 other courses too since Match last year.

Have you been on the ale, Adey? Average 3 or 4 rounds a week on your home track, play other courses here there and everywhere (look at the last week!) and you have to go to work at some time. Do you ever sleep?

Always time for the ale Jim. I work alternate weeks day and nights, so when it is my night shift week sometime I will play 4 or 5 rounds maybe 6 depending on what time I get away from work at night. This week I will have had 3 at my place, including the medal, 1 at Kenilworth and 1 at Newark.

Anyway if you snooze you loose.....:p

Personally get a bit bored/complacent and lose focus if I only play the same course over and over. Am trying to make sure I get away from my home course at least every fortnight and hopefully every week over the summer. Thankfully plenty of unsuspecting forumites whose courses Im planning to self invite myself to :p

:D Ha ha - how do you select which courses to play? I need to play different courses with different people really - don't know why- just enjoy variation I guess.

Word of mouth mainly and asking around. Have made plenty of friends from on here and often get games arranged at different courses (last 2 weeks ive played Coventry GC and Kenilworth GC with forumites). Also get 20+ reciprocals from my clubs membership so we try and play quite a few of them each year as well as playing a few club matches. Enter a couple of the national matchplay comps, hope to get through a few rounds and play a few away games. Enter a few opens on courses that have been recommended (or that look good, golf empire a good place to look). Sometimes just go somewhere on a whim. Played at Tewksbury Park today as had picked up a cheap groupon type voucher for an overnight stay and a game (£39 for 2!) Have a hit list of 50 courses Id like to play this year, expect Ill get close if dont achieve it, any that miss out will roll over to next year

Not been to south wales for many a year , maybe have to add it to the agenda!!! The £39 deal was actually better than expected, was down at cheltenham races so convenient to stay 10 miles away as well as getting brekkie and 18 holes in :)

That was a great deal then - I'll keep looking at GRoupon (usually delete them) for golf offers. There's some great courses down here - if you're looking to play any you'll be welcomed with 4ballforall.

I love playing our away friendlies to local courses, two of which I would never have thought of playing if I hadn't been with the team.
