Great player and definitely good for the game - although I know what others mean too.
Not the most charismatic character currently - but he is still only a youngster. Whether or not he's going to be a dominant force only time will tell, I think his lesser firepower than some might be a factor, but I bet 'his people' will get to work on that.
No doubt though that he's off and running at a good pace for sure and him slugging it out over the next ten or so years with Rory is quite a prospect...

I like him because he proves you can be the best without being 6'4"+ and without a textbook swing.

For me I found his golf very dull but then that could just be that he played well and putted well, I remember David Seamen once saying if you see me make a great save it's because I have got my angles wrong or misjudged something.
Also I guess the way he keeps talking about putting a team together and making it sound like it's just a business and he is a very small part of it the dullest and most tedious part. How will that kind of talk draw anyone to our great game.

Very interesting. Is it his job to make it interesting though? I do like that he is yet to be put in the gym and put on add boards and so on. Still some natural talent.

By its nature that is what golf produces.
Name me one charismatic golfer to come on the scene in the last 30 years.
I can only recollect two in over 50 years; Arnie and Seve.
I don't include Tiger because his appeal was entirely down to his phenomenal play and certainly not his personality. Throughout his career his image and press conference utterances have been carefully controlled by his management team.

I cant see whys Spieth could be conceived as not being good for the game. Although quite what people are expecting from him will be interesting. I d hope he's not overburdened with various tags and labels as the next this and the next that etc. Give the guy a chance to continue progressing.

Interesting characters but hardly charismatic by which I mean their appeal should transcend the game of golf.

I guess we have to be realistic about our alternatives. What would have been better? Big Phil to charge and win it on Sunday? Justin Rose to grab the jacket? Dustbin Johnson???!!! I don’t think any of those results would have furthered the sport in the US as much as Jordan’s win.
If you're looking for dramatic, charismatic characters who light up a screen then I fear you may be in the wrong sport, those guys are much better suited to fast-paced ball games. Rory is good for the game and I believe Jordan will be too. I agree he isn't going to appeal to non-golfers as much as a dashing, swashbuckling Spaniard or a train like Tiger but looking at the current crop of talent I think he’s a natural sportsman who will carry himself well and will inspire young golfers to play a more intelligent game. I think that’s the appeal of Speith, he has the sort of game we can aspire to. No one can crush it like Rory. But we can try to plan our way around a course and become better at getting the ball in the hole.
Whether we spend 10 hours on the putting green this weekend or buy a new putter is our choice in fulfilling that goal!

Tiger wasn't just a well-managed, supremely talented athelete, he was also the first black man to shine at a sport that was up to that point seen as the preserve of the white middle class. It's a bit unrealistic to think anyone will ever have the same impact on the game again. I'm delighted to see him back competing and genuinely hope that the next rivalry is Speth-Rory-Tiger. See the "older" master take on the bucks.

Spot on.
Tiger created a helluva hullaballoo, cos of his great length off the te at the time, so much that whole rafts of gold course had to be "tiger-proofed". He is no longer the longest or even top 40, I believe, but was extraordinary at the time.
With the other facets of his game also being great, it changed the face of golf for a time. Being the first black man to win the green jacket (thankfully) put two fingers up to the small minded bigots at Augusta.
Maybe Jordan will be the champion of plotters and putters for the next decade......

I think Spieth is great for the game. I love watching him play and enjoyed watching him in the masters. I think there is a bigger picture here. American need to be 'the best' to be interested in anything. We need them to feel the best for the Ryder Cup and the majors.
For me the Ryder Cup, as much as I love it, is in danger of being boring and the more we beat the Americans the less they care. Spieth for me can lead the charge for the Yanks against Rory and the Europeans. Think about Hazeltine next year- we have our favourites and characters against an American with nothing. Now you have Speith, Reed, Johnson, Fowler being the youth in the team and pushing them forward. I prefer that to Kuchar, Walker, Woods, Furyk any day. I am really looking forward to seeing how it lines up.

in the 6.5 rounds he has played this year he is averaging 309yds, only behind Bubba and DJ.

I think he is great for the game. Seems like a genuinely nice guy with a smart head on his shoulders. Will be exciting watching how he gets on in his next few tournaments.

I think he's great for the game and would be nice if we can concentrate on his ability as a golfer rather the affairs or drugs or legal spats off the course.
Hasn't someone on the forum just spent time as a guest of his and met his parents, from what they posted I think it sounds like a guy to admire rather than look for personality flaws.

I think he's good for the game as it should sit in the hands of a younger person, teens won't be drawn to the game by 40yr olds such as Tiger knobbin' it round level par, throwing the odd club here and there and moaning of a bad back.
Speith (I thought) was a bit of a brat, prone to stroppy tantrums and a few f-bombs, no?
