Right. Those of you who played golf as kids probably spent a large amount of time thrashing about in a bunker trying to emulate Seve. After a while you'd emerge beaming from ear to ear at your wonder splash shot with the Gobi desert packed away in an array of unimaginable places. In fact some of you may still attempt to emulate the Spanish genius even now. I guess this is ok because Seve is a legend from another era...

...just come back from a little bit of lunchtime practice on the heath where I have been trying to emulate Luke Donald's pitch shots. Now the man had a stellar year last year but he's only 18 months older than me and with hindsight I fear that this might be a bit sad.

So two questions:

1. Is it ok for a grown man/woman to pretend he is someone else when practicing their golf?
2. Anyone else out there want to confess to a bit of golf make believe?

No to both questions , but only regarding golf !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Sounds like someone's fishing for content for the Forum pages in the mag, I can see the headline now:

Smiffy has delusions of grandeur – thinks he’s Sam Snead.

Or

Cross Dressing Homer Shock!!! - found in a bunker dressed as Laura Davies.

:ears:

I like to think of Els or Donald or Couples when I want a good connection and smooth swing over a mighty thwack!

When out on the course on my own I always make up pressure scenarios to see if I'd cope...
my Wifes always telling me to stop playing with myself:rolleyes::smirk:

I often imagine I'm Rory McIlroy. I'm the same height and weight as him and the only difference is I'm nearly 30 years older than him, got a quarter of the hair and am 100 yards shorter off the tee. Actually, come to think of it I am more like Ray Mears - constant battle for survival and often looking for my ball in the jungle. :(

Nothing wrong with that at all. I've had a vision of Faldo's swing in my mind since I first started playing.

Howver, like you, I have started flirting (if that's the right word) with Donald's image - particularly on chip/pitch shots. A great positive mental image - never did anyone any harm.

Dare I admit I used to pretend I was Tom Watson............. but that was back in the early 70's. In fact, if you squinted from a distance of about 3 miles you'd swear I was that man........ apart from he's taller, slimmer and looks like he knows what he's doing.
