As we are in the middle of the winter season and most of us are not playing much golf if any at all.....Is it wise to go for a custom fitting at this time of year as I'm sure most of us are not swinging as we should be and not playing to our normal standards with the layoffs caused by the bad weather.

Would this effect the custom fit results or not?

I would say that a customer fit should ideally be done at the end of a season (Sept / Oct) so you are not changing mid season, and have the winter to get used to them...
...Then again if they are custom fitted you should be able to do it mid season and get better!

Getting fitted can be done at any time, so if you're thinking about it you may as well get it done now whilst it's quiet.

You'll be warmed up before you starting the process, and your fitter will tell you when to start on the machine. You'll be doing a lot of swinging with various clubs and set-ups so don't worry about it.

Griff,What are you thinking of a custom fit for, looks like you have a nice set of irons?

I was talking to our club pro last week and he is an authorised Ping fitter and he is going to Gainsborough in a couple of weeks and asked me if I wanted to go for a fitting at the Ping fitting centre.

As it is winter I have hardly played 2 rounds of golf since November and not been to the range at all, so I'm not striking the ball as I normally would so was wondering if I would get the correct readings or not as I would if playing 3 - 4 times a week as I generally do in the comp season.

Personally, I'd wait till you're playing regularly before going for a custom fitting session, too much variation if you're a bit rusty mid winter.

Just go for it. Should be a good day out. You might be a bit rusty, but in my experience it doesn't take too long to get a bit of rhythm going again.
