What is going on with golf? Are you a golf snob if you look down your nose at the plus fours and argyle pattern knitwear while you fasten your Galvin Green Webber Belt around your Sub 70 Classic Tour baby pink strides? Is it acceptable to wear jeans and a T shirt? Is it snobbery to be a dedicated follower of golf fashion? Do I really need the new driver because its white and I can change the settings? I’m going to lie down, it’s all become too much for me.

As long as People look smart and follow golf club rules, it doesn't matter what you wear. BU... i dont think jeans and polo/rugby/football tops have a place in golf. I think the fact the game has promoted honesty, integrity manners and smart appearances for many years is what has kept it going for so long.

Not a fan of keeping up with the latest gear although if thats what the appeal is to some people then so be it. Untill my clubs become U/S then I dont think i'll replace anything. I don't have as much spare cash as I used to so it has to be either a real barain, or something special to encourage me to spend.

Don't think it is snobbery. Everyone's taste in fashion is different and if someone likes plus fours and a bunnet then fine by me.

Generally I'm never out of jeans but I wouldn't wear them on he course as I don't think they are practical, but it wouldn't worry me if someone else was wearing them for golf.

I personally like high performance gear that is comfortable, flexible, breathable and looks good, although pink trousers would be too far for me!

I've even got my 63 year old father-in-law into is Under Armour compression gear, adidas shirts and Galvin Green waterproofs

I personally would only put on my finest for competition purposes. I wouldn't dress up for Practicing, I don't see what is wrong with wearing track suit bottoms and a polo shirt

It's not only golf there's always something big better newer and more expensive! It's not snobbery to benseen in the latest gear with a bag of new shineys and electric trolley with gps and rangefinder dangling down, the snobbery comes in when people sneer at those who don't have the latest gear on or in the bag.

Jeans and T shirt have no place on the golf course. There is no excuse not to be able to dress for golf. A polo shirt and trousers from Primark etc will cost you £20 and you'll look perfectly acceptable. I do like to wear some decent golf gear (Stromberg, adidas, Cutter & Buck, FJ etc) but as long as my partners were adhering to the dress code (oh god not that can of worms again) the makers name etc doesn't bother me in the slightest. Its about the golf and the company and isn't a fashion parade

I agree with homer, as long as its trousers and a golf style shirt (polo or turtle neck) then it doesn't matter the name on it however golf clothing manufacturers do make their clothing with the practicalities of golf in mind so their gear should be more comfortable particularly in the summer where cotton polos get soaked in sweat and the new style from Adidas Nike etc actually wick the sweat away and dry quickly.

I dont care to be a follower of fashion, but I must admit I like to look the part now,you cant beat wearing the right gear for the day,I used to be a bit of a tight git when it came to buying golf clothes, but not anymore, you would never see me with dirty shoes on a golf course,eh,we've got to have standards, plus the better makes do a fantastic job of keeping you warm and dry..

Fat middle aged blokes in Chino's and sweaty polo's look equally as bad lol!
I wear jeans and tees all the time, especially when practicing down the range, but I would not wear that on the course. Pair of comfortable trousers (dark not to show any sweat patches!) and a decent polo that wicks sweat away (not a cotton moiture absorbing one) Black shoes and a some shades if it's sunny, I have my hair so don't need a silly cap or to protect my bonce as I do wear suncream in the summer. Oh and shorts are allowed as well as long as they are smart.

i only wear the latest gear because it makes me feel good as do most of my playing partners,we have a best dressed golfer comp that the pro started as a bit of fun and to make some of the scruffy sods who looked like they had slept in their clothes up their game and to be honest if i want to spend £150+ for my golf outfits what has it to do with anyone else if you want to go budget that's up to you i prefer quality and style.i don't own any jeans or combats and have just bought 3 voi track suits and matching trainers for the gym its all about image and how others see you same with cars change every year and the flasher the better as my boss youst to say image is everything.

OK if you can buy perfectly acceptable gear that is both smart and functional for a tenner. What is spending £150+ for golf outfits if it is not snobbery?

PS I agree with the old fat blokes in jeans. It's wrong on a lot of levels.

It's not snobbery but Jeans and a T-shirt aren't golf clothing. Just about every sport has a dress code, you wouldn't turn up to play cricket in Jeans and a Man U top so why should you at golf?

talking of fashion (and I am no follower of it) sun visors. sports caps or what ever you choose to call them - after a session of the range with the sun annoying me and the hair geting in my eyes I am now considering one - do they actually make a difference or is the fashion thing?

And why oh why do suppliers insist on pink for lots of ladies equipment!....................ugh I have never liked pink

Its all part of the game dressing up and looking the part and feeling good. You wouldnt turn up and play a football match in a pair of jeans, I know its a totally different situation but its a dress code. If you dont like it dont play the game. And you can still look the part for very little money so no excuses.
