As a member of a club, stuggle to book a Tee time, on a saturday morning for almost 3 months?
In this period I've often had to suffer with just the back 9 unless I want to tee off around 2 pm.. Sometimes later. I have pulled them up about this a few times but the obvious answer I get is that Saturday are there busiest day... I never would of known.
I love the course but I now want to cancel my membership as I feel I'm Paying good money for something I Can't take advantage of.

Is this something that should be sucked up or am I right in wanting to cancel?

If all the tee slots are taken then surely they have a system to allocate them. Can't suggest anything if you don't follow the system to book your tee.

If your club is full of swindle groups then that really should be something the club try to help out with, certainly at our place they try to allocate some spaces this way ( during winter they are few and far between though). Of course if you wait until Friday afternoon and expect to get a slot for the next morning then you'll have to join a millionaires club to get one :)

Loads of members left a club near me. Increased numbers of pay and players plus a number of organised groups booking tee times as soon as they were released meant it was very hard to get a morning weekend tee time. Large numbers voted with their feet

Are the tees booked predominantly or exclusively for competitions? Are you seeking to play in competitions or just social golf? Clubs should be making tee-time provision for social golfers who are not seeking competition play. How soon before the event are tee-times up for grabs and how are they allocated? Are the same groups getting their preferred tee-times on every occasion?

Many questions but I feel you are getting a raw deal.

There are a few swindles that have the early slots every Saturday. The rest I assume are taking up by other members that have booked up well in advance. An option I don't have due to work and childcare.

Just book them up and then cancel if you dont need them.

The comps fill up fairly quick but usually enough people drop out so I've been able to slot in somewhere when there on. Most Saturdays I'm just looking for social golf with some pals ( who have since left). The swindles have the same times every Saturday throughout the year I believe. Most have been members since the club opened so its probably there privalge to keep there slots.

Knowing tree seeker personally I feel he could expand on this situation further. He's club has two swindles on average that constantly occupy 7-9 slots meaning early tee time are non existent, from 9-11/12 the tee times are always booked by the same members, then from 11 onwards the pay and play boys take most of the slots... Either that or society bookings. He's course is lovely, there's no doubt about that but when he's paying full membership to be a member of club then being forced to do green fees or guest fees at other courses it's a bit much, he's effectively paying for. Membership that he cannot use on weekends.

He's only option is to join the swindle if he wants a tee time, but this is ruining the social aspect of the game meaning he cannot play with pals.

Does sound like a bit of a bum deal you are getting. I had a similar problem at my last club with getting a slot for comps. As soon as the board went up it got filled and most of the time I struggled to get a look in unless I was lucky.

But surely those slots that you describe as pay and play are availbale. The issue must surely be that he isn't booking in advance.

If I decided on a Friday that I wanted to play on Saturday then I would also struggle. If I decided earlier in the week then I'd likely get a slot. I can't see any way that the club could leave entries open for this possibility, it would make no sense.

I have a similar situation at my club, I can easily get a tee time during the week or in the afternoons at a weekend but getting a slot even in the comps on a Saturday or Sunday morning is a bit of a challenge. I've adopted the strategy of booking a slot up to 2 weeks in advance to be sure of playing. I will know by the Wednesday before the weekend I have booked whether I can play or not so if I can't i will cancel it to free it up for someone else. You have to use the system to your best advantage IMO.

This is basically what I had to do when I joined my club. The slots open up at 1600 Sunday, 13 days before on the brs site. I'd either book a slot so others could join me or if I saw a 2 or 3 ball add on to theirs.

Sorry also meant to say that if its not working for you move. Find a more accommodating club. Lifes too short.

Join one of the swindles. It gets you to meet more members, and become part of the club, rather than an individual who wants to play in the same 4 ball all the time with mates. You might find you actually like it!
