I am playing in my first ever singles comp soon after getting a bye in the first round due the player not being able to make it .
so i looked to see who my opponent was ? i now play off 7.5(8) and he is down on masterscore board as 23 .
so i thought well he gets 15 shots on me , but at hc 23 i have the beating off him !!.

but looking at last years singles he Won ! , and won through on every stage , even beating the best player at our club, and he has already beating one of the better players there to in the first round.
then looked at his record for this year and there is only one recorded game where he was cut by 1.6 but still no card there just a clause adjustment ??

So my guess he just wants to win the big comps and does`nt enter any other comps?
so does that make him a bandit and it seems he has 15 shots on me before i start, is it worth the bother turning up, (but will give it ago anyway)

To me, yes. Surely his handicap should be inactive as well if he hasn't played in 3 qualifying competitions....
 
At our course you have to play in at least 6 white tee QUALIFIER rounds to be able to go in the following years major singles and pairs matchplay comps, which is above the Congu level of 3.
 
I suggest you invest in a quick language course so you can speak to him in Mexican the whole way round ;) Definately sounds like a bandit
 
From what you have posted it at first glance it seems he's a bandit, but maybe the cut was from the annual review, its not been a good year so far to play qualifiers which may explain lack of activity this season?
Stay positive or there is no point turning up!
 
Surely unless he has had at least 3 cards in the last 12 months he would be inactive.

At our place that would mean he could not enter the comp or that he would have to conceede if his HC went inactive between rounds and he came to the next with an inactive one.

I know this as someone I was paired up with in a comp and we came 2nd found out (after the round) that his went inactive a day or 2 before we played and we were DQ'd as a result!!

I supose there may be a ruling that if it is active at the start of the KO then it stays active but I cannot believe that is the case?
 
If he is consistently beating better players something is going on that's not right. it's not luck and it's not coincidence.

How is he a chest tho DCB ? He obviously enters enough comps to keep his card , but winning is important to him so he picks & chooses the comps he plays in .. Bandit ? sounds like it yea .. Cheat ? unfortunatly not .

Our place is full of cheats , you can be sure they play the opens & the club comps that the will be geting .1 back , but in the big events they score well , its so obvious , played with one d other week & it was sad . would love to have complained but how do i prove he meant to miss a putt or a green ? we all know them people , they are cheats in my eyes
 
firstly an active handicap requires 3 scores in the previous calendar year - although of course many clubs sensibly retained the 'old ways' and require 3 competition returns in the previous 12 months for entry to board/trophy competitions as a seperate matter.

the person concerned may be a bandit, you will find out in due course :)

personally I would start with an open mind but be carefully recording the players scores at the same time. there's nothing wrong with submitting the card when he goes round in 4 over gross to the 14th where you shook hands, together with a brief note and a suggestion that 'something may not be quite right here?'.

note, this is entirely different in my mind from the situation where the same thing happens but the player is out there every week in competitions (probably with mixed results!).

their is no requirement for the H/C team to do anything straight away, and it would be inapporpriate on that 'evidence' alone anyway, but it help them at next years review (in a way that bar chat isn't)
 
Feel for the guy to be honest, no reason to believe that just Becuase he has beaten people in Matchplay that he is a bandit/cheat. Being high handicap is useful in Matchplay as you get loads of shots and can blow up and only lose one hole.

I know guys that are 26 that I would not want to play at Matchplay Becuase they can play fine for 9 holes, play just over handicap on 5 holes and blow up four holes. If I'm not playing to handicap and shooting some birdies then I'll be in trouble.

Considering golfsaint was winning comps at the start of the year with mega points, the only difference is this guy is winning Matchplay, not stroke play, hence not getting huge cuts.
 
Sorry but if this chap can play enough to be competitive in a matchplay situation, even with getting strokes, he can make time to play in qualifiers. Only reason he has not to play in qualifiers is that he may get cut and that just wouldn't do would it.

So he lines up on the tee getting a large number of strokes off an opponent, knowing he's fiddling the system.

That's why I say he's a cheat.

Surely in golfing terms a cheat is someone who breaks the rules ... ? sorry if i sound pedantic , isnt it just like using a rule to your advantage ? he has to have 3 qualifiers to keep his card, so he has .. under the rules there is no other criteria he has to have is there? Dont get me wrong, personaly i think being a bandit is as bad but realisticaly he has not broken any rules .
 
Granted, he has not broken any rules. As such he is beyond reproach.

Probably just another instance of areas that need tightened up in our handicapping system.

Still think he's a cheat though ;)
 
I find it quite sad if he does keep his handicap high so he can win knockout, surely we should all try to get our handicaps as low as possible.
